The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly of the ND game

So the fact that we had 77 shots at the basket to Notre Dame's 55 and we still lost was due to poor defense?

Vols shot 43.2% vs. ND. Their season average is 41.8%. ND opponents have also averaged 62.8 ppg and almost 19 turnovers/game. Vols only had 10 TOs and with 77 points, was +14 over ND opponents average ppg and +4 over their season average ppg.

That fact shows me that Notre Dame has a much more efficient offense than Tennessee (which we already knew), and that the Lady Vols did little to slow them down. Still, they played well enough offensively to win this game.

I don't know why this is so complicated. If I told you before a game Tennessee would score almost 80 points, shoot reasonably well, and keep turnovers low, wouldn't you feel really confident about their chances to win? And how confident would you be if I told you they would give up almost 90 points? Tell me again which phase of the game was more disappointing?

fyi, the reason Izzy and her teammates missed those layups is that they was scared sh**less of Turner and Reimer. ND has legitimate stars, like UT had back in the parker years. And unfortunately, they are young stars..... :(

M Russell could have handled Turner but Izzy can't.

I have yet to see Russell "handle" anyone. Maybe in the future, but she certainly hasn't yet.

Still waiting to see her score when she actually has to create a shot as opposed to putting back a bunny or relying on a guard to penetrate and dish her the ball. She showed virtually no offensive prowess her freshman year, and based on how other bigs have failed to develop as expected by this coaching staff over the years, I am not optimistic that things will be any different for Russell.

100% agree! Mercedes showed real promise in the SEC tournament last year. Idk how many games people watched but I can remember quite often when Mercedes made some post moves! This whole notion as if she NEVER made a post move besides a layup baffles me! We can all agree, she's no where near what Izzy was last year...they're two different type of post players. Izzy is more face-up, blow by slower defenders. Mercedes is a more back to the basket...occasional jump shot post player (she has this in her aresenal, seen her make plenty in high school and USA Basketball). This would be a totally different defensive team had Mercedes been available this year. Give me a healthy Mercedes Russell, Jasmine Jones, and the non-injury to Izzy earlier this year and I bet this board would be singing a whole diff tune !

Some of them would still be doom and gloom, wanting to fire Holly, saying X(pick the player) is worthless, and trying to start arguments one way or the other.

As soon as LV's are able to advance again to a Final Four, win a road game vs. a Top 10 opponent and come within 10 points of ND (or UConn) I will change my tune. Until then I will point out mediocrity whenever I see it.

The only game you can possibly be referring to is the LSU game where Russell was 4-4 field goals in 13 minutes. That is good, but certainly not a HUGE FORCE.
The other two SEC Tournament games were nothing to speak of.
