Really Hat? I mean don't get me wrong this was a fine movie. But I could recommend several other recent movies that are better.

This definitely did exceed my expectations that were pretty low but I wouldn't consider it a "go see it right now" movie at all.

I disagree RT572. Its an inspirational flick with a great script and was finely acted. I thought the three young characters' storylines and what they were going through perfectly merged what Denzel's character was about. Two Academy Award winners in it too.

I could've written and directed that movie. Not to knock it too much I'm just saying it wasn't THAT good.

Yea and Atonement won, CLEARLY proving that the Golden Globe people are stupid.

And Dewey Cox was nominated for best musical...

Is that a joke? I said that there was nothing wrong with this movie it just isn't like anything special.

It's the same basic plot as every other movie just like it...only with debating as the topic. And that's not a knock on these "inspirational" movies, I'm just saying it's not some revolutionary life changing movie like it's being portrayed.

I don't think anyone portrayed it as life changing.

Saying you could have written and directed the movie is knocking it.

I mean it was clearly an exaggeration although I do write a lot (including screen plays) and have studied film a good bit.

I'm just saying that the plot structure is the exact same as every other movie before it as far as how it is set up and plays out.

Problem

Problem 2
"Unexpected" happy solution 2
Inspirational moment of triumph
Bring it all together with a character being humbled

Just fill in the details and you have a story just like The Great Debaters and every movie like it. It may have had better details but it's the same story.

It's a proven recipe. It worked for all those Ernest movies and Free Willy movies.

I'm sorry, but some of you nerdy screenwriters or whatever tend to over analyze a movie to get what you want out of it. I feel if you watch a movie for entertainment you are a lot more happier with the outcomes. Entertainment is not meant to be broken down piece by piece, it's just meant to be enjoyed.
