I am a Charlie Daniels fan. But I prefer the original version by Lynyrd Skynyrd. I don't know about greatest ever but it deserves the nomination.

I know a guy who shook the hands of those guys who died in the plane crash just as they were boarding, not at all unlike Waylon Jennings and the Buddy Holly band.

Ever heard of Shooter Jennings?

The guy that saw them off has had a Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute album recorded for over ten years and one of the strangest things was he had gotten the OK to release it from everyone involved which was a major accomplishment because there was a lot of conflict between various factions after the plane crash such as girl friends, wives and etc.

I think maybe my favorite song on that album is titled; "Jesus in the Wind."

His favorite song was; "right here in this room."
