Since most of my threads lately have been fail worthy, I thought I'd give something I know a shot. Any guitar players on VN? What kind, how long you been playing? I'm just interested to see who comes out of here with a hidden talent...

I've been playing for 5 years. I have an American Strat & am using my brothers Orange Amp. I need some new pickups in my guitar because it sounds like crap right now, I'm just a little short on cash.

I don't really play a lot, just when I'm bored.

Orange amps are amazing. Our guitar player got one last year and, well, we just sound better because of him..lol.

Been dabbling for about 14 years. I can make some good sounds and have a good ear but I'm to ADD in my playing - 30 second bursts then onto another tune or melody.

I have been playing for about a year on a Washburn D-10 accoustic. I play with a jam session group Monday nights where we play mostly old time music such as Carter Family and traditional fiddler tunes. I also just recently started learning the dulcimer.

Jam sessions are the best way to improve quickly - I need to find one.

I'm sure you're working on your Doc Watson pickin'

No, I'm just a hacker. I saw Doc last month at the Rhythm & Roots Reunion where I was a stage worker. I'd give my left testicle to be able to play like he can.

Is there a stage or event you haven't worked? Man, you get involved - that's awesome.

Actually that was the first time I worked that event. Awesome bands - Carolina Chocolate Drops, Red Stick Ramblers, Ralph Stanley, Dixie Bee Liners, TG Sheppard, Doyle Lawson, April Taylor, Reagon Boggs and about fifty others on 12 stages over three days.

Just bought my 11 year old son an Ibanez electric guitar off of Craigs list yesterday. He get's it tomorrow for his birthday. He started lessons two months ago. Going to get interesting.

shoulda had him start with acoustic. Would be easier on your ears. Plus you wouldn't need to buy an amp

He did play on a very old acoustic for the first couple months. The guitar I picked up for $110 also came with an amp. I know, I know. I'm going to regret it. But at least I have an excuse to drink beer outside now. :)

It occurred to me that I didn't answer my own original question. So, for what it's worth..
I have a Taylor 814, Taylor 714, and a Taylor T-5. I also have an epi SG, and a Michael Kelly Baritone electric guitar, which is no longer being made. I'm a gear junky. So there you go, if you care.

Thats awesome rbroyles...does this jam session take place in bristol?

Yes at Java J's Coffee & Bagelry each Monday at 7:00 - come on over. We are needing a bass player particularly.

Now this has nothing to do with Rhythm & Roots, no one except the Vanover Sisters comes to it that is known. They only show up occasionally, they are in their 70's.

Is the T-5 a maple top? That's an impressive collection.

Mine's actually Sitka Spruce. The Maple ones are nice, they probably sound even better.

It could be, the one in the pic belongs to Annie Robinette, check her out on My Space, awesome singer.

I also go to a Blues Jam at O'mainin's Pub Mondays at 9:00. There are some good musicians at it. I just do vocals.

Here's my gear.

Like I said earlier, I have an American Strat that I'm using with my brothers Orange amp.

That's also his Jazz Bass & Ampeg B2R.

That's my acoustic Fender up top.

He's in the Navy so he won't be needing them anytime soon.:)

That's the Fender jazz isn't it? I love those orange amps. Our guy has the same cabinet as yours, but a different head...nice.

I've played for 15-16 years. Taylor 614 a/e, Epi Elitist LP, and an older Fender HM Strat. Mackie sound, tc electronics G-major processor, loop station, Vox wah, Ibanez Tube Screamer, Boss Metal Zone.

In the build is a computer for digital recording/mixing; it's been a long-time coming!

On a similar note, I have an invitation to start playing at a regular weekend event at a downtown K-town establishment, so I'll post an invite if/when it happens.
