The harsh truth

Do we keep Martin as a coach if we make the tourney and go one, possibly two and done? It sure doesn't look good for making next years tourney. We need a coach that can coach our kids up and get them fired up weather it is BP or someone else.

lol! He's 'coached up' the players he was left with and the one's he brought in. That's more than Pearl can do on his best day. Pearl would not repeat what he did if he took over the team now. He doesn't have the same guys. And northern, yankee, gum-flapping BS will only get you so far. We have a coach, we don't need an animated cartoon character for a coach who likes to paint himself up or do things that make other coaches say..'uhhh, yeah'. Nobody followed his dumb act. Not K, not Jim, not anybody.

There seems to be several camps of Vol basketball fans:

1. Keep Coach Martin ... PERIOD
2. Keep Coach Martin ... if the team makes the NCAA tourney.
3. Fire Coach Martin ... PERIOD
4. Hire Bruce Pearl and then figure out what to do with Martin.
5. Basketball? What's that?

I do not think that being somewhere between the 40th and 68th rated team is good enough. The goal should be top of the SEC and an elite 8 expectation annually.

If your expectation is making the elite 8 on an annual basis then I'm afraid you've overvalued the commitment to basketball the school, athletic department, and most of the fan base has.

I like all these prophets on here that think they know what is going to happen with TN basketball. When nothing they say comes true half the time.

And you've established a standard for coaching for UT (which is perhaps the 30-35th best program in the nation, traditionally speaking) that about 3 of the top 10 programs can achieve. Your standard would have already fired Bill Self, Calamari, and everyone in the BIG10 but Izzo.

I hate to break it to most of you but TN basketball has been average ever since it existed and probably will continue that way. Some schools just have better programs than others.

Harsh truth is we have 3 SEC regular season championships in 31 YEARS (82,00,08).
Temper your expectations people. Some people talk like we are a powerhouse in men's basketball. I would say keep Coach Martin at least 1 more year.

C'mon man. We have 1, yes 1, Elite 8 appearance in our ENTIRE basketball history, yet you think that should be our expectation every year??? How about we start with getting to the Big Dance and Sweet 16?

Keep coach Martin and let some recruits see some stability. The last few games I think we have played pretty well. I bet some recruits are looking at TN now after the way we played the last few games.

Whoa grasshopper. It doesn't have to stay that way for ANY team in the SEC. We can be a B1G easily and aren't far behind them anyway. We presently have the #1 team. As great as some of the rest are in BB, they cant say that.

I'm not just talking SEC and I'm speaking more traditionally. KY, Duke, North Carolina, etc traditionally have great basketball programs but not so much with football. TN has not really had a great basketball program but does have a great football tradition. Some programs excel at certain sports more than others. I also know there are schools that can have both football and basketball tradition. Just look at Florida. I know things can change but it doesn't happen often or quickly.

Lol I'm interested. If we hire CBP, what do you believe we do with Martin?
