An above average HC with an average staff is much more likely to succeed than an average HC with an elite staff.

Case in point the Zooker

You can look at our own team and see that the HC isn't all someone needs. Fulmer had Cut, Sanders, and Clawson. Look at what Dooley did with Wilcox compared to Sal. Assistants and to a larger degree Coordinators matter a great deal.

One could argue that the demise of the Fulmer era was his own complacency on the recruiting trail. I am a big fan of PF but IMO that was more of his issue than losing cut.

Also DD didn't accomplish anything with Wilcox or sal so that's a terrible rebuttal

If you couldn't tell a difference in the D with Sal and with Wilcox then you can't understand football. Also the difference in what Cut could do with an offense and what we did in that year with Clawson were night and day. Crompton looked better in two starts his RS freshman year against LSU and Ark than he did in any game his JR year.

Wilcox accomplished nothing here. He is an elite DC IMO but couldn't overcome his HC. That's my point here.

As I said earlier it can be argued that Fulmer failed at the end due to his own loss of the fire needed for recruiting at an elite level. Should we look at his last few classes and see where they finished nationally to prove that stance???

You think Wilcox is elite? He's good, not great, and definitely not elite. That's a huge stretch. What has he done to earn the tag of "elite DC?"

2 of his last 4 classes were top 5. We would kill for one in our last 5 years. Would Fulmer had won anything in 98 with Clawson and Sal?

Most of the posters here really are f------ delusional.
The best high school staff in america's time here will not end well. Next year will be a total debacle.
