onsides kick needs a lot of work. Did not like the excution of that.would have liked for the kick to be a little high and over first line of defense.:thud:

Yes they screwed up the onside kick, Jones was livid on the sideline afterward. Learning experience.

The tale of the game was UGA got lucky on special teams downing that ball on the 1 yard line. 99 out of 100 of those go to the end zone.

For what it's worth, I am not a fan of the onside kick at any time that a defensive stop has time to work. With 2 1/2 minutes, I would have favored a kick and try to stop 'em. But, they don't pay me to make decisions and I can't argue with those that make them.

Hahaha Gurley had a career day and a better plan was just kick it right back to them.

Butch tore into his special teams coach right after it happened. It was quite frightening. It looked like he might fire him right there on the sideline.

It was interesting/cool that he faked and went to the other side. But it was also awful because it didn't work.

It's just a difficult play to pull off even with a good kick. 1/10 at best.

Thing is though, with all the timeouts left, you can try the onside kick and still try to force a punt with timeouts.

It looked like coach jones wanted the kick to the other side. not the backside. Does anyone else believe that. The way CBJ motioned while "discussing" this with the special teams coach made it seem like he wanted the onside, but the traditional version on the side with AJ.

It is ok. You are allowed to give an opinion. Although many on VolNation seek to suppress any contrary opinion to the coaching staff. Coach Jones gets paid a lot of money so I bet he can take it. Part of the fun of being a fan is debating what should be called and not called during games. Of course most of that fun is among your close friends. It is dangerous around here because you will be mocked called names and generally ostracized.

I dont know on side kick rules but was pissed because it looked like the holder should have let go of ball and chased after the kick giving us an extra man on that side.

Stripling is not the special teams coach, Elder is... so I'm not sure why he's yelling at his d-line coach.

I heard on the radio this morning it's closer to 3/10. I'd love to know if that's accurate.

This question is: would Richt have gone for it on fourth down if he was deep in his own territory? I'd guess probably not.

I thought he was just mad at the poor execution of the kick. If it doesn't go 10 yards, we have no chance. Thought I caught him mouthing "kick the D@%# ball" in the aftermath. Just needed to be kicked a little harder to go 10 yds plus getting the "hop".

If you look at how that game went, a 3 and out was far more likely than an on-side kick working. As someone else mentioned, doubt Richt goes for it deep in his own territory.

Yeah, Todd Gurley made a 3 and out much more likely. I agree!

When Medley teed the ball up it stayed on the tee. There was a calm wind at the time. But...TK was told to hold the ball. So now Medley has only 3 defenders to go after the ball not 4. TK is a wasted body. And...Medley now has to kick an onside kick to the right, where TK is holding the ball. It just didn't look like they had ever practiced holding the ball on the tee for an onside kick.
Who made them hold the ball, referees or special team coaches?

Why was there confusion to begin with? I would think UT would know what the gameplan was on the onside kick but Butch looked like he was ready to explode.

Freak, it IS around 3/10 but is misleading. The success rate for EXPECTED onside kicks is much lower (~13%). Surprise onside kicks skew the averages.

Why does it seem like the opposing team always gets the luck? :mf_surrender:

I think the onside kick was supposed to catch them offside when they kicked it to that side than to be a really really good onside kick. but, it was still bad
