The last game really meant nothing...

Actually it means our offense sucks, primarily due to the lack of talent at the QB position. Oregon doesn't exactly have Florida's defense and we only put 14 up on them. Hell we could barely move the chains. This season is going to be very long unless something unforeseen happens.

You are right. In the grand scheme of Tennessee's season, this game means very little outside of the wounded pride of the Vol players and their fans alike. Only, the blindest of the orange faithful prognosticated the Oregon game as a Tennessee win. That being said, this was the worst defeat handed the Big Orange since 1910. That speaks volumes not only about how bad this beat down was but also to the consistent competitiveness of Vol teams past. Sans the opening touchdown by Tennessee, this team and its coaching staff showed little progress from last year in the way of game preparation, defense and tackling, and ability to run the ball when the situation demanded. The lone bright spot was that this team did not quit on us and while out-manned, played hard to the end. There will be days where we Vol fans will wonder if the course we are on is truly the correct one. There is an entire season of SEC games left to navigate. Let's hope that Butch and company can right the ship before it lists off-course into a bowl-less abyss.

I agree with you on almost everything except that you can't really be upset with the coaching staff. People need to remember that it's a new system and a new staff, these players haven't had a chance to develop in this system. What we should be looking for out of the players this year is improvement week to week and a willingness to fight to the final whistle no matter what. The Oregon game as a barometer of the progress of the team is a bad one, the only thing that you can take away from the game is that the guys didn't quit and continued to go full speed, at the end of the day that's all you can ask. As for this weekend, I understand the 17 point spread but I think the score is closer purely by virtue of the offenses both being biblically bad, UFs overall talent should carry them to victory but don't expect the gators to score more than about 20, my guess is it's something like 17-6.

I don't expect us to win very many on the road. I hope we play a better game than Oregon I don't see how we could play that bad again.
