The last play

I watched the 4th quarter twice and i thought it was clear that the SC defender impeded Nared, whether she was tripped or bumped into.

I thought there were two turning points in this game for Tennessee..one was the tech on Wilson which put her the bench with 4 fouls and the deep 3 by alexa to put tennesse upmby 9 late in the 4th...great win for Tennessee and i think SC will beat uconn as long as wilson stays out of foul trouble. Also cuevas moore needs to be starting for SC..

Congrats LVs FWIW you avoid contact especially when the game is on the line. Contact will usually be called a foul. I think the bump and falling to the ground is a foul. Remember ND a few years ago taking all those questionable charge fouls. Good Win LVs

Coates touching the ball while standing out of bounds and SC still getting the ball was a more obvious call that was blown by the officials. Those are the breaks and we finally got one.

Do you happen to remember where in the game that was? I recall it but can't find it on the replay. As a side note I always find the people who like to blame a loss solely on a referee never seem to thank referees when they win. I mean Dawn basically did with her comments after the Miss St. game saying "We don't win this game if we aren't at home." Even still I say unless you truly believe you are playing and evenly matched team if you do what you are suppose to do for 40 minutes you should have a good enough cushion that the referees can't make or break you. However, South Carolina really depends on the refs in their big games and have for the entirety of the past 3 years where they have become considered one of the top teams.

For example in 5 of their 7 big games so far they have gotten at least 21 points at the free throw line. The two games where they didn't get to 21 points.... they lost... to Duke & Tennessee. Last year they averaged 24 free throw attempts a game the highest in NCAA WCBB and just to use as a comparison that was 10 more attempts per game than the team that played 38 games and went undefeated.

I know Dawn get's on the refs. It's her job as a coach but sometimes you gotta tell your players to keep their heads (which I assume can be hard to do when you are losing yours). Wilson didn't have to like the call be she had to accept it because it wasn't going to change. I don't think she would have reacted that way if she wasn't on her home court but in that moment she had to know they needed her on the floor. Anyway here are the stats:

SCar vs tOSU 41 FTA = 26 points
SCar vs Louisville 31 FTA = 24 points
SCar vs Texas 40 FTA = 30 points
SCar vs Duke 14 FTA = 9 points LOSS
SCar vs UCLA 32 FTA = 21 points
SCar vs Miss St. 28 FTA = 21 points
SCar vs Tennessee 17 FTA = 13 points LOSS

When you are relying on so many points from the free throw line it will catch up to you because refs are different everywhere you go. You can't count on every game getting 20% of your points at the charity stripe. Also the game slows to almost an unwatchable pace. You get use to playing slowly and walking up the court because you've spent half the game walking to the free throw line.

Nared was fouled 15 times and Diamond 5 times. SC entire starting lineup tallied 3 to 4 fouls individually.
SC is consisted a physical team and the call probably went out to deal with TLV in that manner.
Live by the sword die by the sword..
They could have probably won if they would have lean to their finesse game

Dawn worked the refs pretty hard. I thought on the technical Dawn should have drawn another one, and some of the people behind the bench should have been removed by security. I bet they will be embarrassed when they see how they looked. Or maybe not.

I also thought Coates and Wilson got away with a LOT. I think they are used to being accorded the "Duke Privilege" as some other stars are.

It's a shame this late call is detracting from an earned win. The refs could have chosen not to call the foul, but they did and it was a fair call. The LVs dominated in the paint, limited TOs, led by 3 at HT and 11 late in the 4th and held on for the W. Cuevas-Moore had a hot hand and the chance to hit the game-winning 3 and didn't. The LVs got a quality win, with the opportunity for another against LSU, a #25 RPI team. Let's keep it going and see if we can get a high seed!

Here is the screen cap I have of the play. Clearly contact at the knees as Harris steps in front of Nared while trying to turn and run with her.

So it looks like it was actually a good call. Live it looked like Nared just tripped over her own feet (at least to me).

When the league decided to call hand checks a couple years ago any kind of contact on the perimeter is a foul so a good call. The play is only magnified because it was the last play of the game. They missed a few calls on SC as well like the Coates out of bounds.

The last view from the end zone looked to me like the SC player clipped Nared with her knee. It wasn't much, but enough to trip her up. That being said, SEC officials are about as bad as the NFL officials.

. Pat rode the refs harder than any coach I've since outside of Coach K.
