Nice!! A lot of these & the 750K were on the road in the 70’s. Can you diagnose & fix the problem yourself without takin it to a shop? Gotta a few hours working on bikes. Need some help, let me knownot the last thing but the last big thing - 78 CB550K - mostly rebuilt and ran fine at first but now experiencing problems. hopefully can get it sorted

You using any fuel treatments? Highly recommend. Today’s ethanol gas is terrible on 4 stroke carbs & you have 4. From what you described, starts & idles but dies when you pour the coal to it makes me believe it’s the carbs. Those jets are very sensitive to any junk build up in the bowl.thanks - I had a 76 550F back in college.
started running like it was running out of fuel then died. thought it was charging system. wasn't getting over 12v even when revving. guy I bought it from bought a new rectifier/regulator and installed and it's putting out a little over 12v now on revs. was idling fine, revving fine but when I took it for a ride (put it under load?) it acted up immediately - same thing missing, backfiring then die.
It ran fine before the first incident (about the first 15 miles).
gonna check the plugs to see if they got fouled in the first incident. after that I'll probably have to take it to someone who knows these old things

Bought a Yamaha 700 that had been sittin up for 2 years. Ran but like do do. Kept running a cleaner thru the carbs & finally got it running perfect without having to rebuild them.
Berryman B12 has worked best for me. Seafoam is another good one. Let me know what you find out
