Don't laugh, but a surprise jewelry gift at Costco. I did some research, and you can actually get great deals there on diamonds, etc, as long as the recipient isn't a total snob. Their markup is MUCH lower than traditional jewelers, and their gemstones have certification papers like any other reputable dealer.
