I think Golash also carried the QB coaching on this team even though his formal assignment was tight ends. He worked very closely with Hooker. I remember seeing him throw the ball around with Hooker to demonstrate the right technique and what not in practices. It seems to me that our scheme on offense has gone vanilla since his departure. Everyone still talks (Herbstreit) like we are this team that wants to lull you to sleep with runs only to hit you over-the-top with deep balls several times per game. Where are the deep shots? Nico missed 3 (hit 2) that I can recall, but that’s not a very high number of attempted long passes. I don’t think it’s because CJH doesn't trust Nico. I think it’s because he’s actually a much more conservative play caller than we thought he was. Long story short, I miss Golesh.
On paper this should be a real good O line but Elarbee is severely botching it right now. The routes they are calling take to long to develop and with a line struggling to protect the QB, this is what you get.If it's the O Line this year and was the O Line last year...... we're going to have to do a better job recruiting depth and perhaps in strength and conditioning to help avoid some injuries (hopefully.)
If you can't execute your offense because you lack the talent in the trenches, no matter how explosive it is, your offense is useless.
Arkansas had great coverage and got pressure on Nico. Our O-Line was hot garbage all not except for maybe one drive. If you O-Line doesn’t execute, your plays don’t develop.I agree. Last year the playcalling was conservative but really felt like that was due to lack of trust in Milton - which was understandable.
But this year with Nico and all this talent makes no sense.
We will lose multiple games this year if this is our offensive philosophy.
Throwing in the flat and running up the middle will not get it done
Benching Nico for Moore, at this point, is pretty much saying, "Thanks for coming, Nico. Enjoy the portal and good luck."That dog not gonna hunt.
We heard that same thing last year with Milton.
If he's not trusting his QB's then why isn't Moore out there because he's been under Heupel the longest and knows the system and he should trust him
I think that's a fair assessment. Elarbee and Heupel need to have a "come to Jesus" discussion about our pass blocking. On paper this should be a real good O line but Elarbee is severely botching it right now. The routes they are calling take to long to develop and with a line struggling to protect the QB, this is what you get.
Wait so you mean every passing play doesn't have to be a play action deep shot??? You're telling me the play calling is bad? LolOn paper this should be a real good O line but Elarbee is severely botching it right now. The routes they are calling take to long to develop and with a line struggling to protect the QB, this is what you get.
There's apparently no time to get separation or the WR aren't getting it before the pocket breaks down. We're going to have to endure Nico throwing into little separation windows and that means INTs and misses. It’s clear that other teams have learned to stop our run with a light box and beat our offense. I also know that we use the run to soften the pass defense. We have a multimillion dollar qb and supposedly one of the deepest receiver rooms in the country. Why can’t we come out taking shots and use the pass to soften for the run. Play to our strengths. We don’t have a bruiser back.

I keep coming around to this. Needs to cut Nico loose to succeed or fail, but give the young man some leash! It seems to me that our scheme on offense has gone vanilla since his departure.
