The Loss of Golesh

How much $$$$ would it take to get Golesh back? Write the check AD White. You got all that money from Pilot and Food City now. We don’t need more luxury boxes and entertainment complex’s. We need wins
I say write the check to get Vandy's QB while we got the check book open

It seems to me that our scheme on offense has gone vanilla since his departure. Everyone still talks (Herbstreit) like we are this team that wants to lull you to sleep with runs only to hit you over-the-top with deep balls several times per game. Where are the deep shots? Nico missed 3 (hit 2) that I can recall, but that’s not a very high number of attempted long passes. I don’t think it’s because CJH doesn't trust Nico. I think it’s because he’s actually a much more conservative play caller than we thought he was. Long story short, I miss Golesh.
I think Golash also carried the QB coaching on this team even though his formal assignment was tight ends. He worked very closely with Hooker. I remember seeing him throw the ball around with Hooker to demonstrate the right technique and what not in practices.

The QB play hasn't been the same since he left. I think we need to go back to the veer-and-shoot coaching tree to hire a new playcaller and a new QB coach. Halzle should be fired.

If it's the O Line this year and was the O Line last year...... we're going to have to do a better job recruiting depth and perhaps in strength and conditioning to help avoid some injuries (hopefully.)

If you can't execute your offense because you lack the talent in the trenches, no matter how explosive it is, your offense is useless.
On paper this should be a real good O line but Elarbee is severely botching it right now. The routes they are calling take to long to develop and with a line struggling to protect the QB, this is what you get.

I agree. Last year the playcalling was conservative but really felt like that was due to lack of trust in Milton - which was understandable.
But this year with Nico and all this talent makes no sense.

We will lose multiple games this year if this is our offensive philosophy.
Throwing in the flat and running up the middle will not get it done
Arkansas had great coverage and got pressure on Nico. Our O-Line was hot garbage all not except for maybe one drive. If you O-Line doesn’t execute, your plays don’t develop.

That dog not gonna hunt.
We heard that same thing last year with Milton.
If he's not trusting his QB's then why isn't Moore out there because he's been under Heupel the longest and knows the system and he should trust him
Benching Nico for Moore, at this point, is pretty much saying, "Thanks for coming, Nico. Enjoy the portal and good luck."

Heupel knows that next year, unless he went to the portal and could develop a guy in his system quickly, he'd have another R-Fr Merklinger starting.

It’s clear that other teams have learned to stop our run with a light box and beat our offense. I also know that we use the run to soften the pass defense. We have a multimillion dollar qb and supposedly one of the deepest receiver rooms in the country. Why can’t we come out taking shots and use the pass to soften for the run. Play to our strengths. We don’t have a bruiser back.

I think that's a fair assessment. Elarbee and Heupel need to have a "come to Jesus" discussion about our pass blocking.

Maybe some of those "shuttle passes" I despise to keep the rush honest if we truly lack the talent to handle the rush.

With my own limited experience, I know the film won't lie about what the big ugly guys are doing right and wrong. Get with Elarbee, get in the O Line room, get it fixed.

Wait so you mean every passing play doesn't have to be a play action deep shot??? You're telling me the play calling is bad? Lol

There's apparently no time to get separation or the WR aren't getting it before the pocket breaks down. We're going to have to endure Nico throwing into little separation windows and that means INTs and misses.

If you're a "run first" offense and can't run against SEC defenses, they're going to bring it with the rush and make life miserable.

The linebackers were blitzing constantly. Did we throw a single ball to a TE on the seam? How about a wheel route out of the backfield?
Maybe we should hire you to call plays! More creativity in this post than I've seen from our offense since September 2023

South Florida is a stepping stone job for Golesh.

I keep coming around to this. Needs to cut Nico loose to succeed or fail, but give the young man some leash!
