Is the qb play of Josh Dobbs.....we were in/near the redzone so many times and he couldn't make it happen...we should have easily win by 3 scores...yes the playcalling and coaching decisions sucked, but with an average qb, we win easily....I don't know Rileys health situation, but I am pissed that he didnt even get a chance the entire season.....Dobbs is the least poised freshman qb I have ever seen....if Riley is worse than we have 2 epic busts at the qb position and I refuse to believe that.....which makes me lose even more faith in this staff....screw burning the redshirt....we needed to make a bowl and win that game....

Actually, with a good qb, we would have looked great overall last night....the running game and defense were clicking majority of the night....offensive play calling was limited by Dobbs lackluster passing abillity. This is the only thing that gives me hope in this staff....there were improvements round the board....just needed a capable qb...and please don't mention Worely...he is better and ee would have won with him, but he .is not the answer either..

Agree. As much as I don't want to, you have to point directly at the staff. I've said it in other threads. Does Worley look like an SEC QB? Barely. Peterman? No. Dobbs? No. All three look ill-prepared.

I don't see how anyone can say differently. Dobbs literally couldn't complete a slant, a comeback, an out last night. The 2 most inept college QB performances I've ever seen have come this year... Peterman at Fla, Dobbs last night. Common denominator? Butch Jones/Mike Bajakian.

He did not play well, that is for sure - but then, did you count how many times our O line was allowing him to get smashed in the face while they kinda just stood there? That kind of thing makes anyone nervous, much less a freshman QB. Cant tell you how many times he was having to scramble and our Oline looked like it was in slow motion. So yeah, he had reasons - thats why he was trying to get rid of it too fast a lot of times and got intercepted. Granted, all that said, I think he could have played better than he did, even with the lack of blocking he got.

And if Vanderbilt does not lay the ball on the ground in the red zone twice, Vanderbilt wins by 3 scores. Neither team is very good but one team continues to find a way to win. Tennessee had multiple chances to score and Vanderbilt found away to drive 92 yards to get the W.

I agree with OP. Hard to win against anybody with those stats. Heck, Florida can't even beat Georgia Southern with poor quarterback play.

Nope.... The reason we lost is because we suck! Players suck, coaches suck, the administration sucks and even most of us fans suck! That is why we're a losing program!

I think Dobbs will progress. He ran in the winning TD, he didn't make Pig block in the back! It's gonna take a few years recruiting and a new O-Coordinator! :twocents:

I hate when fans throw Dobbs under the bus. Yeah he played poorly but a few plays here or there and the vols win.
1. Special Teams could be blamed Palardy missed a field goal, faked field goal and poor and poor punting.
2. If Pig does not block in the back we are up 17-7.
3. If Defense stopped Vandy on 4th down or played better D last few seconds.
4. Coaching staff made a few bad decisions like fake field goal and time management.

Vandy is not the same ole sucky Vandy.
Our team did don't not make the best decisions but played hard and never rolled over like they did last year against Vandy.... that's what I am proud of.

Dobbs threw 2 bad passes. The rest of the day he played pretty well. Even the 2 bad passes were right on target, he just shouldn't have thrown them because the receivers weren't open. This is all correctable. Remember, things look a little different on the field than they do from the sky boxes.
