The Masters Tournament

Hanson with a career round of golf and Phil with a putting clinic on the back 9, great stuff to watch.

Oosthuizen was as good as anybody tee to green, fairways and greens all day until he shortsided himself on #18 and it cost him.

Kuchar, Mahan, Bubba and Westwood gutting it out and staying in contention and Harrington still within sight of the leaders with a solid round of 68.

I was surprised at the poor score that Rory carded.

I hope Phil wins a 4th green jacket tommorrow.

I don't care what anybody says, The Masters is the best 4 consecutive days of TV of all time.

It is good fun. I wish they would get to a point with the TV coverage that they just televised the entire tournament as opposed to starting coverage every day at 3:00. Due to an early tee time on Thursday and his mediocre play so far in the tournament, really only Tiger's Friday round was televised. You would think ESPN would rather televise a full day of Masters coverage as opposed to hours and hours of Sportscenter. Does anybody know the reasoning behind not putting the morning play, especially Thursday and Friday, on TV?

No need to. I'm right there with you.

Tiger is blasted by the media but generally well liked by his peers. Phil is slobbed on by the media and not really cared for among his peers, hence FIGJAM.

I see at least 6-7 guys close to the top I'd rather see win than Phil.

That is such an old and tired story. Phil is an honest and earnest man, father and spouse. Many pro golfers are arrogant pigs and he doesn't fit in with the lifestyle, which is why some of his peers don't like him. His autograph signings, relationship with fans, and appearances like thursday morning make them look bad.

I spoke to Phil many years ago over a 2 day span at a charity event for st jude. People on here that don't like him havent ever talked to him.
Nicest "star" person/actor/athlete I have ever had a conversation with.

If Tiger was playing well, he would get all the coverage you could want..
Unfortuantely he's not back to the point we all thought he was 2 weeks ago...

I know that, I was mainly saying with the way the Thursday and Friday tee times work, where you play early one day and late the other, or play both rounds near the middle of the day, the best you can hope for with ANY given golfer that you might want to watch is to see them play most of one round. Guys who get 2 mid-day tee times might only get their final 3-4 holes of one day on TV. It would just seem ESPN would get more viewers by televising full day Masters coverage as opposed to 7 hours of Sportscenter and then putting the Masters on at 3:00.

I was really just wondering if there was some well known reason for not televising all of the early rounds. I know once you get to the weekend, guys who go out early are almost all well out of contention, so there wouldn't be a ton of interest, but on Thursday or Friday, the contenders could be on the course at any time.

yea, I wouldn't mind seeing all 4 rounds televised either

I figured I wasn't the only person who would have preferred full Masters coverage as opposed to 7 hours of drivel about BountyGate and the "horrifying" new audio evidence that had just come to light. Seriously, it was Masters Thursday/Opening day for baseball, and somehow, neither of those events even seemed to register to ESPN.

Phil is as arrogant as the best of them. But hey, since you got to say hi to him in passing at some random golf tournament, that totally changes my opinion.

I'm continually amazed at the people who think ESPN or CBS have any say whatsoever in regards to TV coverage.

I wasn't trying to change your opinion. Just giving you mine from a personal experience. The rest of what you said above is a misinformed attempt at being a smartass.

I wasn't sure what the full details of the TV arrangement were, but i figured had to be more to it than meets the eye, because I would think SOMEBODY would put full coverage on if that were an option. Do you have any idea what Augusta National's reasoning is behind wanted to limit the TV coverage of the event?

They are trying to protect the mystique of Augusta. When the cameras are rolling they want it to seem like high drama at all times. They want the image of Augusta National to be that of a magical place where you dream about attending. The course looks better with the shadows of late afternoon than it does at high noon. They're trying to separate it from the other tournaments, which, while great, do not have that other worldly feel.

I'd say they've done a pretty good job of it. I know it's the tournament, perhaps the thing in sports, that I as an individual would most want to win.

Really? I've read plenty of accounts of being considered a jackass by many of his peers.

Cant help but wanting Bubba to get a win today.

Nothing better than Sunday at the Masters.

Dooz, if ESPN and CBS threw up the cash, Hootie and Co. would let them televise the whole thing. They have way more say than you want to think. It hurts that because of the way Augusta wants to run things, they lose a lot of ad revenue. People like to think that's it's mostly just Augusta doing things their way and not allowing all the ads, but it's also because people aren't willing to pay up for the PC issues that partnering with Augusta brings.

I've also read that most other golfers only associate themselves with Tiger because of what he's done for the game, not to the game or because of his personality. I've heard that most players (including the legends) are disgusted by both parts of the latter.

I'm pretty sure AT&T, IBM, & EXXON pay out there arse so I think they're doing alright with ad money.
