The McRib is back!

Calories in McDonald's - McRib Sandwich, a boneless pork patty covered... | Nutrition and Health Facts

The calorie count is surprisingly not that bad, it's the fat and sodium that's the killer.

The saturated fat is high, but surprisingly not as damaging as once thought. New studies have shown saturated fat has been labeled the enemy for almost no reason. In moderation it's very beneficial to us.

The sodium is definitely high. But if you're eating it once a week or something it doesn't matter. 890 mg? Sounds high. A can of chicken noodle soup can be up over the 1,000 mg mark and they are recommended by doctors every day. That's one thing I never understood.

The only other number that had me wondering was the Potassium. The amount in there is crazy at 400mg, but apparently it's still only 11% of your daily value.

I always look at potassium as healthy. I eat a lot of bananas.

Makes me want one lol. To be honest I expected some disgust in the video. Only thing I hate are the preservatives put in. But that's in almost anything you can buy now days.

I guess it's not really "mystery" meat after all. You want mystery meat go watch how a hot dog is made.

They say in the video that those preservatives are to maintain flavor but what they are really for is to prolong shelf life by preventing bacterial growth and rotting.

BHA - Butylated hydroxyanisole is an antioxidant.
Since 1947, BHA has been added to edible fats and fat-containing foods for its antioxidant properties as it prevents rancidification of food which creates objectionable odors. Like butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT), the conjugated aromatic ring of BHA is able to stabilize free radicals, sequestering them. By acting as free radical scavengers, further free radical reactions are prevented.

Propyl gallate - propyl 3,4,5-trihydroxybenzoate is an ester formed by the condensation of gallic acid and propanol. Since 1948, this antioxidant has been added to foods containing oils and fats to prevent oxidation.

Citric Acid - The acidic pH of citric acid makes it useful as a preservative. Since many bacteria are unable to grow in an acidic environment, citric acid is often added to jams, jellies, candy, canned foods, and even meat products as a preservative.

I'm amazed this thread is still going. Maybe we can talk about a Hardee's biscuit and gravy next. I'll be the first to admit I used to love those things.

I just saw the first batch of Eggnog in the liquor store this week BTW!!

I still remember the first time I drank it as a kid. I avoided it every winter and said it looked so nasty. My mom and grandma finally talked me into trying it. I have loved it ever since.

You know, now that you mention it, I don't have a clue where I first tried it. I am the only one in my family that drinks it. Glad I discovered it though, however it happened lol

2 weeks after, will a McRib look and smell like the day it was bought like a McD cheeseburger does?

It's very likely. Found a year old fry under my car seat from McD's and yet it still had no mold on it.
