The Memphis Post Game Report

I love Yemi as a story and believe he has great potential, but I can't agree with this statement. Yemi looked totally lost tonight; he's not ready to start at all. It's not entirely his fault, because he hasn't played the game long enough and is being forced to play when he really needed a redshirt. He had that one good game recently, but all in all he has looked lost and to be a minimal contributor on the season. (By the way, even he knows this. See some of his post games comments from previous games and watch his facial expressions during games. They scream "C'mon, what did you expect?")

I would agree with whoever said Dwight Miller needs some PT, but he's just not getting it for whatever reason.

Our biggest hope lies in Jarnell Stokes and the hopeful reemergence of Maymon.

Yemi's defensive hustle and desire alone have earned him more playing time. His offense is lagging, but we knew that coming in (though it's further along than we thought), and it's not like we have made a great effort to work the ball into the post players offensively anyhow.

He is definitely a presence on the boards, offensive especially, and gets a lot of put backs, which no one else really does, and he seems like he tries harder then anyone else on the team...

Miller is plenty good to be getting minutes on this team. He averaged more than Hall as a freshman at Pitt in the big east.
Something else is going on.

Hall had 2 pts and 2 TO's in 28 minutes. That's ridiculous.

His best stretch was a bucket and then drawing a charge on the next possession. I said that was a night's work for him and, well, that was about it. LOL...

UT missed a lot of open shots and Memphis won the post battle. UT played catch-up the entire game and did not get much scoring off the bench. They dont need to dwell on this loss too long because SEC play begins Saturday back home in Knoxville. Go Vols!

Something is definitely going on for Miller not to have played. I have not seen every game, but he's been one of the better players whenever I've seen him.

UT simply needs more playmakers. I'm trying to make this constructive and not just torching several Vols but:

Renaldo Woolridge may as well ride the bench for the rest of the season. I can't say why he never panned out, but he is an upperclassman and plays like he doesn't have a clue what's going on or what his role needs to be.

Kenny Hall hasn't developed at all. I picked him as the Vols' break-out player this year and he's almost completely absent from every game.

Cam Tatum is pigeon-holing himself as a purely spot up shooter. Almost completely one-faceted.

Skylar McBee has no business being on a basketball court. I could never figure it out when Bruce was at UT, and I can't figure it out now.

Golden and Maymon are great players in their own rights, but the Vols need more. I like the young guys, they play hard. Washpun, Richardson, Mackanjoula, all play tough. They need some coaching up, but are all solid 4 year players.

Martin will be fine here, especially if he's bringing in guys like Stokes, he'll just need some time to clean house.

You obviously dont watch much UT basketball this season. In all honesty, Skyler has been our 4th or 5th best player this year. He had a bad shooting night. But he is shooting the ball great this season. And his defense is not outstanding by any means, but he is not getting killed. His defense is definately not worse than the other wings on out there. Watch the game again and tell me how many times he just got toasted on defense? Now, with all that said, if he is your 4th best player so far this season that gives you some evidence as to why the season is the way it is. Our talent/basketball skill level is not very high right now.

Maybe he dogs it in practice? Maybe he doesn't get the offense?

Who knows. We aren't there.

I'm beginning to wonder if anyone outside of the coach's head gets the offense. At least controlled chaos had a name. Dribble drive has some flow. What we're running has yet to be defined by watching it. A few half-hearted cuts and a high screen. Pass it a few times and jack up a three.

If ever there was a time to run a low isolation and post up someone, it was last night against Tarik Black. Never saw anything that would come close to it though.

You're testimony says volumns about our coach. When the competition likes your coach, then we are in trouble.
