1. I'm probably biased, but after today's game, I believe UT should be in the tournament no matter what happens next week. They've earned it.

2. Bernard King Player of the Game: With the season in the balance, down by eight, Josh Richardson picked up the intensity, made a nice shot, got after it defensively, and helped bring his team back. He gave them a swagger today. He showed no fear. He got in Phil Pressey's head. Pressey couldn't handle him. He was the key.

3. Missouri started the game off 8-11. Missouri finished 24-58 (41.1%). Missouri was 16-47 the rest of the way. That's great defense. They did a better job of maintaining the ball action by Missouri. They went under the screens and forced jumpers. Jarnell manned the middle like a beast today.

4. Huge, huge, HUGE shout out Quinton Chievous. That first half was the best basketball he's probably ever played. His ability to guard bigs yet be able to handle switches on Missouri's guards were fantastic. He did the best job on Bowers. He made a couple nice passes to Jarnell and grabbed five rebounds with authority that I haven't seen from him. Without him, UT loses. He gave UT a huge spark in the first half. Well done.

5. Jarnell Stokes. Thirteen rebounds. 5-10 from the field. 3-4 from the line. He controlled the paint on defense. He was a man against a really solid player in Alex Oriahki today. And me made the biggest play of the game with that absolutely gorgeous baseline move that sealed the deal. He's a first team All-SEC player. Tonight proved it.

6. Tennessee won today and there was one simple reason: +13 and +11. Tennessee out rebounded Missouri by 13 and had eleven more offensive rebounds today (17 total). That is why UT won. They sucked on offense, but UT just out hustled Missouri today.

7. Trae Golden and Jordan McRae went a combined 8-23 from the field today and UT won. That's a minor miracle.

8. Tennessee got lost on defense too many times off ball. They corrected it better in the second half, but Bowers roamed and they just lost him too many times. I think Missouri had 12 points on cuts. That can't continue to happen.

9. UT struggled with the zone today (they've been pretty good this year on zone offense). I believed Missouri's length really got to them. Golden and McRae couldn't get their mid range game going. However, Richardson went to the basket, using his great mid-range game, and did a great job. UT also went to the corners like they did earlier in the season and did a really nice job feeding Stokes.

10. UT did what they had to do. They won. It was a huge win, and I personally feel it punched their ticket to the dance, which is remarkable considering the circumstances. However, the goal is not over. Why not go to Nashville and win the SEC tourney? Wouldn't that be awesome? It's been too long since that happened. It's wide open. UT's won eight of their last nine. I'm not saying it will, but hey...you can never count out a Cuonzo Martin coached basketball team ladies and gentlemen.

Go Vols!!!!!!!!!!! :hi:

We out rebounded Mizzou 45-32. 18 of them were offensive rebounds and we held Mizzou, the best offensive rebounding team in the SEC to 10 offensive rebounds. IN fact we had 16 2nd chance points to Mizzou's 13. That was the difference in the game.

We did not defned them well late in the game, but Mizzou cooled off from 3 point range and hit 23% from downtown.

Josh Richardson is my player of the game.

Excellent breakdown, zjc, and spot on. I was about to post a thread saying what you said in point number 6-- we out rebounded them 45-32, with 18 of them being offensive boards. EIGHTEEN. That was against the 2nd ranked rebounding team in the country, and IMO, the biggest reason we won.

That, and we got all the "dirty baskets" we needed. :)

Josh Richardson was the Benard King MVP in my book. His steal of the in-bounds pass was huge. Plus he added 11 points with 7 boards.

I loved watching this game. I was really worried. I like how we are still making strides this late in the season.
Are there any games we should be watching or rooting for still tonight to help our chances to get in the big dance?
Great job Tennessee!
GO VOLS!

I'm with you. His offensive rebounds bought us lots of extra points and his smothering defense on Pressey sealed the deal.

Mcbanks 3 when Missouri were making a run late was big, imo. Hall didn't contribute much in this game, but hats off to him and Mcbank for being Vols.

I agree Josh Richardson is definitely the player of the game. We win this game strictly because of his effort.

I agree, they have earned it

Chievous played great today. I think he was a big reason that we managed to survive the first half

5. The Bernard King Player of the Game: Jarnell Stokes. Thirteen rebounds. 5-10 from the field. 3-4 from the line. He controlled the paint on defense. He was a man against a really solid player in Alex Oriahki today. And me made the biggest play of the game with that absolutely gorgeous baseline move that sealed the deal. Stokes was a beast today and he shot much better from the line.

The rebounding differential was definitely a key to victory today. Seems like everyone got a board in this game

7. Trae Golden and Jordan McRae went a combined 8-23 from the field today and UT won. That's a minor miracle.
Just looking at that stat you might wonder how the heck we won

10. UT did what they had to do. They won. It was a huge win, and I personally feel it punched their ticket to the dance, which is remarkable considering the circumstances. I like our chances of winning the SEC tournament as much as any other team

There is now way that we are not NCAA Tournament bound after this game, no matter what happens in the SEC Tourney..

19-11 overall, 11-7 in conference play, good RPI, good strength of schedule and some good victories over ranked teams.

Dirty baskets lol

So yeah, loved all year, even early in the year when we were getting whipped, how hard this team fights and plays...They get tougher as the year goes...opposite of Dooley's.

Anyway, hats off to Zo for getting em to play with passion, eve when shots aren't falling.

Stokes may have played the 2nd half of the season like a 1st-team guy, but he played the 1st half like a role player. If I'm being fair and consider the entire season, I'm not sure he'll make 1st team, even if he's playing like it now when it matters most.

Also, I would disagree that Tennessee has played well against the zone this season. When Tennessee shoots well from outside, they can shoot teams out of a zone. However, when they aren't shooting well from outside, they struggle to manufacture points against a zone.

Good write up Z. I'll add that this was a game of runs, and Tennessee was able to get the last run and withstand Mizzou's final attempt. Most importantly, when Tennessee was down 50-42, they went on an 18-3 run to create enough of a gap to hold on.
