1. I'm probably biased, but after today's game, I believe UT should be in the tournament no matter what happens next week. They've earned it.
2. Bernard King Player of the Game: With the season in the balance, down by eight, Josh Richardson picked up the intensity, made a nice shot, got after it defensively, and helped bring his team back. He gave them a swagger today. He showed no fear. He got in Phil Pressey's head. Pressey couldn't handle him. He was the key.
3. Missouri started the game off 8-11. Missouri finished 24-58 (41.1%). Missouri was 16-47 the rest of the way. That's great defense. They did a better job of maintaining the ball action by Missouri. They went under the screens and forced jumpers. Jarnell manned the middle like a beast today.
4. Huge, huge, HUGE shout out Quinton Chievous. That first half was the best basketball he's probably ever played. His ability to guard bigs yet be able to handle switches on Missouri's guards were fantastic. He did the best job on Bowers. He made a couple nice passes to Jarnell and grabbed five rebounds with authority that I haven't seen from him. Without him, UT loses. He gave UT a huge spark in the first half. Well done.
5. Jarnell Stokes. Thirteen rebounds. 5-10 from the field. 3-4 from the line. He controlled the paint on defense. He was a man against a really solid player in Alex Oriahki today. And me made the biggest play of the game with that absolutely gorgeous baseline move that sealed the deal. He's a first team All-SEC player. Tonight proved it.
6. Tennessee won today and there was one simple reason: +13 and +11. Tennessee out rebounded Missouri by 13 and had eleven more offensive rebounds today (17 total). That is why UT won. They sucked on offense, but UT just out hustled Missouri today.
7. Trae Golden and Jordan McRae went a combined 8-23 from the field today and UT won. That's a minor miracle.
8. Tennessee got lost on defense too many times off ball. They corrected it better in the second half, but Bowers roamed and they just lost him too many times. I think Missouri had 12 points on cuts. That can't continue to happen.
9. UT struggled with the zone today (they've been pretty good this year on zone offense). I believed Missouri's length really got to them. Golden and McRae couldn't get their mid range game going. However, Richardson went to the basket, using his great mid-range game, and did a great job. UT also went to the corners like they did earlier in the season and did a really nice job feeding Stokes.
10. UT did what they had to do. They won. It was a huge win, and I personally feel it punched their ticket to the dance, which is remarkable considering the circumstances. However, the goal is not over. Why not go to Nashville and win the SEC tourney? Wouldn't that be awesome? It's been too long since that happened. It's wide open. UT's won eight of their last nine. I'm not saying it will, but hey...you can never count out a Cuonzo Martin coached basketball team ladies and gentlemen.
Go Vols!!!!!!!!!!! :hi:
