The Morning After – Sober Reflections Week 13

Man, considering we laid an egg in Gainesville, lost a ton of talent from last year and were severely overmatched vs GA, Mizzou and Bama in the second half, I’ll take my 8-4, tip the ole hat to 2023 and be glad we’re not still wandering around in the middle of the Dooley, Lyle and Cornbread Show! Looking forward to reconvening with our tailgate group next season and doing it all again. See you guys at TBA/Food City Center. Plan on taking in a few games and watching Barnes’ boys this winter.

Those of us who have been "bleeding orange" for life realize how hard National Championships are to win, much less play in. I'm good with this year's Vols. Also have confidence in the head coach, players, and administration. Hope we get a good bowl and win it.

My first thoughts: It was the Joe Milton show as the Tennessee quarterback and future Pahokee Florida Sports Hall of Famer threw for 383 yards and 4 touchdowns to pad his stats and more importantly so that years from now future VolNation posters can argue that he wasn’t actually as bad as you remember. Tennessee scored a bunch of points against Vandy who did their best Butch Jones impersonation and didn’t win a single SEC game.

On second thought:
  1. Vandy was a terrible team and Tennessee won a game that was pre-ordained to be a victory before it was even played. The Vols finish at 8-4 which most VolNation posters will tell you is “exactly where I thought they would finish” even though they really predicted 10-2 or 6-6 .
  2. For the first time this year (I think) Tennessee rushed for less than 200 yards and won the game.
  3. I figured our defense would play more aggressive and record a lot of sacks but the last few games they just show up and collect a paycheck. They didn’t play bad but they didn’t play well either.
  4. Dee Williams AKA Fumble McFumblefingers is a senior. Not sure if he gets to come back but if you see him at Publix don’t ask him to get anything off the high shelf for you!
Looking ahead:
Tennessee will await it’s future meaningless “we need the extra practice” bowl game. My only hope is that Nico gets to start the game and Joe sits and polishes up his NFL buzz reel full of wildly overthrown passes and submitting his resume as the assistant manager at the AutoZone.

Oh, Josh Heupel. Joshy Josh, my boy. You were strutting your stuff last year like a peacock in heat but the whole country just saw you step in that pothole and break your ankle. Or at the very least suffer a bad sprain. You will now spend the offseason in a metaphorical walking boot in the eyes of the nation and the eyes of recruits. Next season, will you be the strutter or the gimp? Hey now I have that song Strutter in my head. I wonder how Gene Simmons is doing these days.

Anywho, see you later 2023. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.
It's Sunday morning, stop drinking brother. It's the Lord's day. At least give him the first half of the day. Geez, can't even buy alcohol til after 12. We won. 4 years ago we kill to be 8-4. Butch Jones best two years we won 9 games. In a medicore year we will perhaps win 9. Also, sec only getting harder so most teams better learn to enjoy a 8 or 9 win season.

I've read Russian novels less miserable than OP's post.

We're missing almost an entire Junior recruiting class (class of 2021), got hammered by injuries, and we still went 8-4. We have one of the highest rated QBs ever likely to start for the next few seasons. Things are looking up.
Exactly. Folks want to dismiss the fact that 30 players, I’ll repeat 30 players, hit the transfer portal. Those players would be leaders on this team right now. You don’t just flip a switch and overcome that. Especially when Kirby and Saban stack top 5 recruiting classes every year. Jeez.

Thank goodness I don’t know you. What a miserable person you must be…
I'm actually quite happy and I use humor to lighten up bad situations (like this season). So many people on this board are ready to attack someone who dares say anything negative. Thank the Lord I didn't grow up your child. I'd probably have a black eye every Sunday. I don't get how people can be so negative as you toward other people. Sad.

Here’s my question to all the Vols fans are you happy and content with 8-4 seasons ? Is that going to be Heup’s ceiling? Was last season a fluke?

Am I happy that a rebuilding year so little removed from the Pruitt fiasco has resulted in our 4th-best regular-season record in the past 20 years? Yes.

EDIT: That and the most wins we've had over a three-year period since since 2002-2004 has me bullish on the future of the program.
