The most Tennessee thing ever.

In other news, the SEC is hard. Very hard.

Makes what Alabama has done for 15 years, and what Georgia is working on doing, even more amazing.
One word that Bama and GA have in common: Depth.

Recruiting matters. Having the ability to rotate guys, or replace an injured guy with another that's just as good is the secret to success. You can't out-coach everyone.

That's one thing that worries me a bit about Josh. He's proven he can coach better than anyone we've had in years. Right now (if you consider that Oklahoma and Texas will be here in 2025) we have about the 7th best class in the SEC.

It's unlikely that that will put you in the SECCG. The only thing separating us from the SC/Arky classes is the bump from Nico being so highly rated.

Now, the wildcard is the portal. Maybe JH is working some magic there.

"This is the Most ___ Thing Ever," is an over-used template for fan bases who want to feel sorry for themselves. I'm a big Dallas Cowboys fan and I just came from their site. They have a "It Would Be the most Dallas Thing Ever," thread on the prospect of losing on Thanksgiving to the Giants, after playing their best game in 5 or 6 years today.

I think Saturday's game comes down to whether or not we can run the ball effectively on 1st down. We have to stay out of 3rd and long and we shouldn't be trying to play at 90 mph with Milton either. I think Tennessee can win an ugly 28-23 type game. It won't impress anyone .. but who cares?
As long as Spraggins stays set and doesnt hold - he is a penalty drive killing machine

We should be recruiting WR's better... that's kinda strange.

C'mon, this is his first real recruiting class, coming off starting in a hole from 30 opt outs.

Funny, everybody kind of accepted the "it takes 2-3 years to establish a program" truth last year, but suddenly after a season of experiencing the rarified air of the CFP elite we will no longer accept anything less, even a step back from losing a stud QB and other key pieces from a team that in reality overachieved this year ... before it became a failure in many minds on Saturday.

Building the kind of quality depth to compete with the Alabamas and Georgias doesn't happen from scratch in one year. Heupel may or may not get the program to that point, but he has earned the opportunity over the next 2-3 years after delivering what was one of the great seasons we have experienced since 1998.

I'm not knocking him at all, I'm just saying you can't win the SEC with the 6-8th best class in the conference. You don't have to be #1 every year but you need to be higher than where we are now.

Also, again, I have no idea what's going on in the portal so my concerns may be for nothing

2001 against LSU, 2004 against Notre Dame, 2005 entire season, 2007 against Cal and Alabama, 2008 entire season, 2009 against Auburn and UCLA, 2014 against Florida, 2015 against Oklahoma, Florida, Georgia, Arkansas, 2016 against South Carolina and Vandy, 2018 Georgia State and BYU, 2019 entire season, 2021 against Pittsburgh, Ole Miss, and Purdue, 2022 against South Carolina.

We choke a lot. All games we were leading, should have won, or were just dreadful matchups.

Half our March Madness tournament appearances on the Men's side are chokes as well. Baseball choked massively this past fall as well.

Tennessee is one of the most brutal programs towards its fan.
The 2001 season was the only one of those that was in any way comparable to this one. 2005 and 2008 were obvious disasters easily diagnosed by the first game of the season. That’s not choking. That’s just being terrible.

I swear it doesn’t matter if we beat Florida,Alabama, lsu in a season. We could start the season 9-0 but we would find a way to lose against South Carolina and Vanderbilt 😂😂.
It’s not funny but good lord only Tennessee could beat those teams, and find a way to get blown out against South Carolina and lose our starting qb in the process of playing for a playoff spot.

I think this weekend is gonna tell us a lot about Heupel, as bad as it hurts to say, this vandy game is huge for us. Can Huepel right the ship and get the team together after this?? Or are we going to see what the other coaches would do and let this season totally implode?
I will say I believe coach Huepel and I think he’s gonna take the steps necessary to removing the toxicity and make some coaching changes in the offseason.!! GBO!!
So, so, sooooooo Tennessee. In…every…..damn….sport.

Look at 2015, sure expectations weren't high but we led in all 4 loses and choke away the lead. Oklahoma and Florida were especially bad as we were up 2 scores with 4 minutes left.

And we may get to the point of top 3 recruiting classes in the SEC, but it doesn't happen overnight. If by 2024 we are still a middle of the pack recruiter, then I'll share those concerns.

ANY scenerio that includes Willie Martinez and our secondary is not the answer to success for us in the future.

Oklahoma was a tremendous choke job, but not a season killer like this was. This was the “Clemsoning” thing they used to the nth degree.

We even dressed up as Clemson for the occasion.

Really isn’t the most Tennessee thing ever. We don’t have a long history of choking. And our recent history is more about never having a shot at greatness than falling just shy of it.
Yeah, we haven't been good enough to choke much in the last 15 years or so.

We have just sucked so bad for so long that winning most of our games in the SEC feels a bit odd.
