Rumor update:

Buzz Williams is in communication with aTm. Not just a target, already in talking with him. Things move quickly apparently.

A lot of names have been popping up as possible replacements for Mark Turgeon at Texas A&M. It sounds like AD Bill Bryne wants to move quickly here. The name that may be at the top of the list is Colorado head coach Tad Boyle. Byrne and Boyle have some history together, and Boyle is very close to Turgeon. Byrne was the AD at Oregon when Boyle was an assistant there (Turgeon was also on that staff). Also, Boyle and Turgeon were teammates at Kansas and Boyle was Turgeon's assistant at Jacksonville State and Wichita State. Boyle is a Colorado native, so I'm not sure he's looking to get out, but all indications are that he's a prime target. Other names that have popped up are Nebraska head coach Doc Sadler, former St. John's and New Mexico head coach Fran Fraschilla, and Wichita State head coach Gregg Marshall. It sounds like Marquette head coach Buzz Williams (a former A&M assistant) and Memphis head coach Josh Pastner were on the short list, but have both decided not to pursue the job.

Marshall would be a great hire. Whoever suggested going after Pastner shouldn't be allowed any further input on that search.

I really wanted Buzz but I've read where his pricetag was actually closer to 4 mil when it was all said and done.

I'm at a loss at this juncture, but I can tell you who I dont want a helluva lot easier than I can tell you who I think would be a good fit.

Lastly, Turge's wife spouting off about aTm made this a little less painful. I may wish him well, but my heart no longer hurts to see him go.

sounds like Texas A&M associate head coach Scott Spinelli is getting some consideration to replace Mark Turgeon. Spinelli has been at A&M for four seasons, and was with Turgeon at Wichita State before that. I’ve also heard Tulsa head coach Doug Wojcik’s name come up in conversations about A&M. He is 123-78 in 6 seasons at Tulsa. You can add him and Spinelli to the list I published yesterday

Staying on the topic of AAU guys, Atlanta Celtics coach Korey McCray is involved with an assistant spot at UCLA. McCray was close to joining the Georgia Tech staff a few seasons ago. Sources indicate that this could become official in the next few weeks.

Found the above interesting so I figured I'd post it here.

Man, I feel bad for ATM. Had Williams decide to retire right after the tourney, instead of waiting so long, they could have had Gillespie back.

I would be hard pressed to come up with a worse fit for College Station than Amaker if I set out to do just that.

Which would have been epic. Billy is still a God here.

Putting this here for the heck of it: Oklahoma approved a seven-year, $16.6 million contract for HC Lon Kruger. Kruger will receive a base salary of $250,000, a $1.45 million annual payment for personal services and fund-raising and a $300,000 bonus each May for staying another full season with the Sooners. The contract includes an automatic $100,000 raise each year and a $500,000 bonus if Kruger completes five seasons and is still at Oklahoma at the end of June 2016.

More names keep surfacing at Texas A&M. I can confirm that Nebraska head coach Doc Sadler has not been contacted about the opening.
