If like to see someone take a shot at the "Gentlemen Bastards" series. 3 books so far with a 4th upcoming. They are great reads if you haven't read them.

Not exactly fantasy, but I don't get how Vikings flies so far under the radar. If it's lost any, it's only lost a little steam in 6 years.

Not sure how Narnia didn’t continue as movies. It’s probably better suited for a TV series anyway but the movies were coming out in the peak of Harry Potter and LOTR movies. It was primes for success.

Really a testament to Harry Potter for completing the series in 8 movies with the same cast.

HBO is doing His Dark Materials soon. The Golden Compass failed back in...08 I think? Hopefully this will do better.

Lionsgate supposedly picked up The Kingkiller Chronicle a few years ago with Lin Manuel Miranda (guy who wrote Hamilton) but it’s set as a prequel series to the books.

The Wheel of Time series is coming but its focused on the female characters’ POV from what I’ve read. So we may not get the full scope of the book characters.

I want to see The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant: The Unbeliever either come to the big screen or as a TV series.

Timothy Zahn's Xanth series and his Blue Adept series.

I'd like to see Shannara redone so that it isn't full of young adult angst.

Have you read The Wheel of Time?

I wonder if the reported Women's pov thing being so prevalent in the upcoming show is because it is such an inherant part of the series, and people not really familiar with the tWoT don't understand that?

That’s a good point. I only mention it because I hope that focus doesn’t come at the expense of the POV of the other characters some of which are my favorites.

Hollywood is just excited there's such a popular fantasy series with strong female characters that they can center the show around. Even if it would be at the expense of the story

HP lovecraft.

This is an untapped universe that is just waiting to be fleshed out.

Done properly this would be amazing.
HBO has Lovecraft Country in the works which is based on the mythos. There are some movie attempts at adapting Lovecraft too, most don't work unfortunately. It's a difficult mythos to get right. There are so many short stories and other writers involved. Putting the backstory on screen would be a gigantic CGI job too.

Only one movie is actually good. It is based on Shadow of Innsmouth and isn’t bad.

The rest suck in my opinion.

As far as writers, he wrote his own stuff. Yes since his death writers have taken his mythos and ran with it but the original short stories published in pulp magazines was his.

There were a few stories that others wrote during that time that he took and re edited to the point they are still considered his.

I didn’t know about HBO show. That’s cool.

If you stick to the stories actually published under Lovcraft's name, I could see an anthology show. Which could work. To do anything serial with a well defined narrative, you'd need to take some pretty serious liberties with the source material. It's something I would love to see. I'm sceptical it would get done right though.

Would love to see the Chronicles of Amber (Zelazny) made into a series. Has plenty of family intrigue to keep an audience interested.

CS Lewis' family unhappy.

The novel "Good Omens" is being adapted into a "Starz" series. Neil Gaiman co-wrote it with Terry Pritchard, I think. Gaiman, for sure, not 100% sure Pritchard was the co-writer, but over 50% sure, if that helps. Premieres May 29th. I think "Starz" is trying to follow Gaiman's "American Gods" series with Omens. The plot is more or less an Angel and a Demon teaming up with some kids to stop the end of the world and the 4 Horsemen of the Apokolips, literally. It's been at least 15 years since I read the book, but I loved it. Imo, a Top 5 Gaiman novel, counting the "Sandman" comic book. Some people may not consider it GRRM and Tolkien style Fantasy since it takes place in modern day with no sword and sorcery (well? I guess tecnically it has a little of both), but I do. I'm checking it out

Edit: My bad, begins May 31st not the 29th
