Let the Kentucky thing be a lesson to anyone thinking the Barnes’ era is just laying the ground for the hire that will take us to the mountaintop. Enjoy these seasons while we’ve got them, it’s not guarantee, and probably isn’t even likely, we’re able to hire anything like a sure thing when Rick hangs it up.
Yes I hope we can somehow get another 3-5 from Barnes but that's probably very unlikely. I'm glad we will kind of have an idea of how well Danny can find up and comers with Caldwell.

The money inside college sports now trumps blue blood status. I remember thinking it was odd how UNC and Duke stayed in house with their hires, but hindsight it looks smart. Not flashy, but smart.

Exactly. It’s not a snipe at Kentucky to say you can’t toss money around anymore and get who you want. Everyone has money. And at the end of the day, how much difference does a few extra million make if you’re already making millions and like the job you are at?

It’s why Tennessee fans hoping Barnes retire soon are nuts. We aren’t going to be able to just get whoever we want.

But you just said you were flashing $100 million. Which of you two is the blueblood now?

I don’t really understand why everyone is counting the portal guys as definitely 100% gone before they have even signed somewhere. I know most are gone, but we thought JJJ was gone last year too

There has been a lot of chatter today about Reed Sheppard returning to UK now because his dad is such close friends with Mark Pope. I think they were roommates.

If he does decide to return, I truly don’t get it. He’s a projected Top 5-10 pick in this upcoming draft because it’s not a particularly strong draft. Call me crazy, but I feel like with a return he could only hurt his draft stock not help it. And he certainly won’t make more in NIL than a salary of a Top 5-10 pick.

Agreed.

Why risk an injury unless he just absolutely loves Kentucky.

Hopefully it's just wishful thinking by despondent cats fans

They were roommates, but Pope is doing Reed and his family a disservice to even entertain the idea of him returning. He's not improving his stock, and the only option left is to hurt it. This is pie in the sky fodder from hopeful UK fans looking to cope with their state of affairs. If Sheppard comes back, he's a fool.

Was about to type up a response to the Sheppard rumors, but this sums it up perfectly. I’d have serious concerns about him being a complete idiot if he decided to come back rather than be a lottery pick in this historically awful draft.

That’s what it feels like, but wasn’t sure if I was looking past an important detail. Reed would be getting terrible advice to return. Even if he avoids injury, next year will be a stronger draft. Maybe he holds his stock firm, but it’s more likely it could fall to no fault of his own or if he were to become injured.

I just can’t possibly imagine he is actually entertaining the idea of returning, and if he is it would be foolish as you said.

Meanwhile Shepherd was showing off his custom made draft day suit yesterday.

Some Kentucky fans think being a "Kentucky legend" is more important than getting to your second NBA contract that even for role players usually exceeds 50 million dollars.

Technically, Dalton Knecht has an additional year of COVID eligibility I think. He should come back instead of being a lottery pick because he said he loves Tennessee. We actually do really need him next year after all these portal losses! 😂

I think we’d raise 20 million by the end of the day if he said he’d come back. We can sell the Ag campus if we don’t have enough. Whatever it takes .

He does? Two years at JUCO, two years at No. Colorado, one year at Tennessee. This was his covid year unless he redshirted one of those JUCO years and I missed it.
