Not that Ole Miss is bad, but it’s that we just won’t step up and take it when it’s there for us. Ole Miss earned it and also wanted it more. You gotta gut up and go get rebounds at the end of a game like that with what’s on the line. Losing in that fashion is frustrating considering what you’re playing for.Don’t know why. Ole Miss is a good team. They hit incredibly difficult shots all 2H - most of them against great defense. Annoyed with our rebounding, but overall this is a tip the cap type of game.
Ole Miss did not “want it more.” We played hard and a fine game on both ends - well enough to win on 99% of nights. But Brakefield went for that 1% tonight. He basically did to us what Knecht did to Auburn last season. Sometimes a team gets hot and doesn’t miss, no matter how good the defense is.Not that Ole Miss is bad, but it’s that we just won’t step up and take it when it’s there for us. There’s still a slim chance at a 1-seed, but it would take spanking SC and Ole Miss beating Florida on Saturday to put us back in the mix.
I agree with this - I won’t argue with anyone saying we could’ve rebounding better in the 2H, because we absolutely should have. But at the end of the day, shots were falling for ole Miss that won’t fall for them the rest of the season. Sometimes there’s just some senior night magic.Brakefield did some things in the second half that I wouldn’t give him a chance of doing most nights. Props to him for playing well and props to Ole Miss for out toughing us in the paint. That’s the frustrating part of the loss is the feeling that we got bullied and didn’t respond.
Still, they hit some tough shots that they won’t hit often. Flukey game for Ole Miss in many ways, but again, we didn’t respond well to some of those things which is on us.
Nonetheless, not a bad loss in the sense that Ole Miss is a good team and it was at their place on senior night. A costly loss, though.
When you’re willing to go get boards and the end of the game when it’s the hardest, yes, you wanted it more. Period. No one said we sucked all game but when you aren’t willing to do the things like find someone and make sure the ball is yours at the most crucial times of the game and the other team does, they want it more and that’s why they got it.Ole Miss did not “want it more.” We played hard and a fine game on both ends - well enough to win on 99% of nights. Agree to disagree. I didn’t see any of our guys loafing. They played great defense on that last possession and got themselves in position to get the rebound. They didn’t come down with it and the ball bounced ole miss’s way. That’s not effort. This was as predictable as the day is long. So hard to go on the road and get a win after such an emotional win at home. I knew this would happen. Acknowledged it ahead of time to those close to me, but if you do it here, you get chastised as a negavol, so I kept it to myself. The sad part is, we had every opportunity to put the game away at multiple times in the 2nd half, and we just didn't do it.Had a bad feeling all day about this game. Frustrating performance.
Chaz has a habit of doing that.Doesn’t help that Lanier disappeared in the 2nd half. Great first half, but then he follows it up with just 2 points in crunch time. We really can’t afford for him to do that in March. We need our alpha to be an alpha. I’m not saying he needs to average 15 points each half, but when Brakefield was putting Ole Miss on his back our best player was on the back of a milk carton.

Can’t remember the last time he put a full 40 mins together. That said, ZZ and Gainey continued hitting big shots down the stretch. I’m oddly confident in this team’s ability to go to different closers in close games over the next (hopefully) few weeks.Doesn’t help that Lanier disappeared in the 2nd half. It's happened a lot. Probably a lot more than we even realize. It would be interesting to see what his half splits are in SEC play.Seems like he is very prone to halves of basketball where he cuts like his feet are stuck in wet cement. Happened at Kentucky (other games too) and happened tonight. Kind of a weird player in that sense.
Don’t backtrack just because you realize there’s still a chance. “Bury the 1 seed talk” has become “more or less/highly unlikely.” Make up your mind. Not BVS to state the fact that a 1 seed is more or less out of the question. Just the reality of the situation. Not the end of the world. Still well positioned for a 2 seed and a chance at a deep run. Undeniable that a 1 seed is highly, highly unlikely.
