You must be mistaking him for Kerry Wood. THAT was a butcher case. Comparing Avery's workload to a present day example is a little disingenous. Why don't you do the numbers for Roger Clemens and Greg Maddux?

I don’t think Clemens pitched professionally until age 20. Maddux was the exception to the rule. I could counter and ask you to look at Nolan Ryan’s innings before age 24. He missed much of one season for various reasons but even so he was a little over 700 innings before 24.
