I would like to see Oats possibly succeed Barnes when Barnes decides to retire.
It’s hard to tell, but I think that that upper balcony is on the north side (behind Ernie). By that time a court side table for the media was added opposite of where the teams sat. I think that the teams are on the left side and out of the camera shot. The guys at center court on the right side of this picture look more like TV announcers rather than the scoreboard operator-official timer and Haywood Harris on the PA. I can not remember exactly what was court-side opposite the team benches before they added more tables for the media. Maybe a smaller table without TENNESSEE VOLUNTEERS on it. I really don’t remember seats for ticket holders being close to court-side. There was an open area/aisle that circled the court between the pullout bleachers and the court-side tables. There is a YouTube of the Kentucky game from the previous year (1975, this picture was taken on 1/31/1976) that will probably clears it up for me.
Edit: at 12:45 a lot of the east end court-side table can be seen.
Seems those guys were much better at the mid-range jumper than players today. Defense was much looser "in the day"
I agree that lines move according to the betting public, but I doubt there is enough money from this message board to move the lines. I could be wrong but I do know Vegas doesn't lose money. If the message boards are affecting where the bets are placed you can take it to the bank, they’d move the line.
They lose a ton of money on some games/bouts. Overall, though, they always come out on top.I agree that lines move according to the betting public, but I doubt there is enough money from this message board to move the lines. I could be wrong but I do know Vegas doesn't lose money.
I’d also add Gary Carter to that list.Without the 3-pointer mid-range shots were a much bigger part of the game. A lot more use of the backboard back in the day as well. Michael Brooks, Mike Edwards, Jimmy England, Rodney Woods, Dale Ellis, Bill Justus, and Mike Jackson are a handful of players that would have benefited immensely from a 3-point line.
A lot more zone was used “in the day”. Mears famously used the 1-3-1 a lot.

I doubt that only a handful if any teams have a winning record against the NY Yankees because for the most part they have historically payed their players better than the competition . I would say that the same could be said for the crimson turdsIs there any sport we are better all time in than Bama? I don't understand the appeal of that place. So dang hot and muggy in spring and summer...to make football practice unbearable...and just seems like a place kids would not wanna go to...yet they do. I mean Forrest Gump...George Wallace etc etc. I don't get it.
