Was it not interference because it was behind the line of scrimmage? I don't understand how that was not pass interference. Furthermore, the announcers didn't even recognize it was an early hit, a cheap shot at that... Complete garbage...

Behind the line. Just like no illegal man down field if it's caught behind the line. Or holding a possible screen pass receiver. All behind the line plays.
