Do people not think they’ll try and redshirt Ziegler if they can? I know that was a possibility at one time.

Not sure. On one hand, it’s probably beneficial to Tennessee’s future to redshirt him, but he’s apparently shown enough in practice to help their present, as well.

Based on what I saw against LR, I'm going to bounce off of you with:

Chandler 30/Vescovi 5/ZZ 5
Vescovi 20/Bailey 15/Powell 5
James 25/ Powell 15
BHH 25/ORN 15
Fulk 25/UP 10/ORN 5

I wasn't impressed with ORN, and was very pleased with BHH and pleaseantly surprised by UP. I thought the team got bogged down on offense with Vescovi at the 1, like last season. I see ZZ getting a few minutes each game if it can be justified. I thought that on ball defense was good generally and improved individually (Vescovi, Bailey), but some lacked help defense and defending off the ball, like ORN. I think Rebounding will be better with UP than ORN, and UP set some really nice screens on offense. I think he can help up to 10 mpg. If not, and even if so, Aidoo might force ORN to the bench later.

I don’t see Barnes going 10 deep, it’s just not his style, but then again maybe his style is changing? I thought ON looked good, and his ability to play the 4 or 5 allows for those extra minutes over Plav imo.

I think I'd have a hard time seeing Vescovi play more than JJJ, consistently, especially given JJJ's positional versatility and SV being moved off the point. 25 vs 30 minutes isn't an enormous difference, but I'd maybe shave a few of Vesco's to give Ziegler.

Well Vescovi ha averaged more minutes per game than JJJ in each of the 2 seasons both have been here, so I definitely think it’s quite possible. JMO

It would be nice if there was some clarity on the rule for basketball, it was expected to be put in place this year similar to football that guys could play in 6-8 games and still redshirt, but hasn’t been officially announced yet. If that was the case I think we’d see Zeigler play in those early games and then the staff make a decision, if they have to decide preseason then I would think he plays.

Yes, but that is why I mentioned him being moved off the point as the reasoning as to why. He’s had to play more simply because of where he was forced to play; PG. About the only way I can see that trend continuing is if he gets all of the backup minutes at PG, which would negate my suggestion that Ziegler get a few of SV’s minutes at PG.

And to be fair, he played 2.2 more mpg than JJJ, last year, and 0.4 more mpg the year before.

Based on what we are hearing from practice and the LR game, it would be hard to redshirt ZZZ. If he is not redshirted, I expect him to find more than 5 minutes a game. Probably at Baileys expense based on the minutes per game Al proposed imo.

I think Vescovi will be given every chance to have all the backup PG minutes, he has Barnes trust and experience and Barnes doesn’t typically like going super deep. I think if we are basically saying Zeigler plays or 8-10 minutes more for Bailey/Powell that Barnes is going with those 2…at least in close/SEC games.

I wasn’t saying it was a big difference, just that since day 1 he’s been a guy Barnes has seeming liked a lot, and reviews this off season seem to suggest that’s only going up.

Staff has to basically decide is he a guy that you play 8-10mpg for 30 games? If he’s 5mpg and only appearing in 15 games then you’d be better off redshirting him imo.
