The Official 2018 FIFA World Cup Thread

They've looked rough leading into the tournament but I think they can beat Senegal, at least. Poland...maybe a draw.

Colombia is going to struggle. They did not look great.

I don't think Japan will advance, either, I just think it is very possible.

It’s hard to look good when you are playing with 10 men for 87+ minutes. FWIW I thought they did a pretty good job considering the circumstance.

Russia has been steamrolling people early - not all that surprising, but what is surprising is whether or not they win or take runner-up in Group A, they are highly likely to face either Spain or Portugal as their first opponent in the knockout stage. I figure they would have been "given" a better draw than that.

And what's just as disgraceful as his actions is how is Federation/lots of his compatriots/Uruguayan media defend him, as if he did nothing wrong.

I feel so bad for Iran.

It was rough when we were all celebrating to get a goal taken away by VAR.

For what it’s worth I thought us and Spain had similar true goal scoring opportunities. I thought we played pretty well considering the talent disparity.

Heartbreaker. Iran played well enough to draw.

They honestly deserved a win imo. While in their wall formation, Spain had very few chances. A couple glimpses, but the entire Iran side did way better than expected given the disparity on paper. They barely missed going up 1-0. It took a very unlucky pinball-type of ricochet for Spain to score. Had a goal disallowed and then about 3 or 4 more pretty good chances more. They didn't allow Spain to carve them into pieces and for the most part, contained Spain's stars. Very impressive.

For that matter, Morroco and Saudi Arabia both played good as well. All the favorites won by slim margins.
