The Official 2025 March Madness Discussion Thread

Dang. On a night where they shot terribly, the Tritons almost pulled off the upset. Michigan is very fortunate to have survived.

UCSD is a really good team. Very well coached and always seemed composed.

I like what I saw from them. They fought hard all night and never showed an ounce of quit. Wouldn’t mind kicking the tires on their coach when Barnes retires, they reminded me a lot of a Barnes-styled team.

UNCW just won't go away.

I hate those teams/games when we play them. Just feels like we are on the verge of running away but every time we look back they right on our heels and have to fight to the last play to get the dub.

We've had a few games on the other end, too. We are right on the edge of taking the lead (sometimes even grabbing if for a brief moment), but for some reason we can seem to keep it or get that one key basket / rebound to necessarily get the win.

Missouri deserves to lose this
Late on this, but, you would think Missouri, after a gauntlet season in the SEC would be prepared to play Drake, a mid-major team with a roster mostly made of former D-II players. To be fair, Drake won against Vanderbilt earlier in the season which I'll give them credit but still surprising.

So the 3 I missed, so far.

Louisville
Missouri
McNeese State

All 3 I had dropping their next game though, so bracket not busted...yet

UCSD ruined my 4 game parlay...picked Michigan by 4 points smh :(

But yes, that was an impressive battle back by them

Need to be careful about that. I’m reminded of when everyone was enamored over that coach from Florida Gulf Coast a few years ago because of one miraculous run. I believe it was USC that hired him and he was an absolute bust. Would want to see more of him before taking a chance. (Mainly hoping Rick hangs around for another year or two so that we don’t have to worry about it but I’m not sure about that either.)

We’re in for trouble vs UCLA
Why’s that? Utah st didn’t play good D. And they shot less than 30%.

We’ve only been blown out in one game. All other losses came down iirc. So that tells me UCLA won’t be able to pull away most likely.
On the other hand, I can see TN getting up by 10-14.

It will most likely come down to the last final four min. Elite D, limit scoring droughts, and make foul shores should give us the dub.

I wouldn’t call Andy Enfield a bust. He was at USC for 11 years and made an Elite Eight. He took the SMU job last year because he must have felt it slipping. SMU won 20+ games this year. He’s never been fired.

Slow, methodical teams can dictate pace of play much more so than fast paced teams, that’s been proven year after year in this tournament. Drake is well coached with a roster full of cerebral players who execute a game plan very well. There’s a reason that McCollum won four Division II national titles before coming to Drake this year. His system works and he gets the right kind of players for it.

I have them losing to St. John’s - a team that does a lot of what they do but with better athletes and a more experienced coach - in the Sweet 16.

I mean...to be fair Andy Enfield was better than expected.

at FGC he was there 2 seasons and won 59.4% of his games, he jumped (probably too early) at the USC job, don't blame him.

He made 5 NCAA Tournaments there, won 60% of his games and had them in the AP top 25 6 times in his 11 years. Also won at least 20 games in 7 of his 11 years there. And then like VolGee4 mentioned, made an Elite Eight where they beat Kansas and Oregon before losing to #1 seed Gonzaga.

And USC isn't a proven basketball program, his 5 NCAA trips is 2 more than the next best coach and his 220 wins there is 3rd most in program history. Both coaches ahead of him were there 16 years

Enfield wasn’t a bust. Maybe not spectacular, but he’s a good coach. Took USC to give ncaa tournaments including an elite eight.
