The Official #21 Tennessee vs. Missouri Game Thread, 12:00 PM ET, SEC Network

Being on the road means nothing this year.

So if UT wins next week @ Georgia, w/covid restrictions in place, it means nothing?

You believe Alabama or Florida will feel the same way if they come in to Knoxville and win?

I'm Taylor's biggest fan but he struggled today a bit and I only mean that because he's definitely got ALL-SEC talent and I've predicted he'll be just that this season. He was great last week and solid today.
Taylor will be fine.

There's jamming a WR at the line & there's trying to take a guy out the play at the line. He got over aggressive for the size differential between himself & the WR when he got burnt late in the 4th.
You'd rather have to coach over aggressiveness out of him that not have any fight in him.

During the 2nd half our entire secondary started taking bad angels & didn't tackle as well as we've gotten used to over the last 8 games.

Conner Bazelak = Good JG's effect on our run game.
Shawn Robinson = Bad JG's effect on our run game.
:D
I kid. That's certainly part of it, but we both know there's way more to our run game than that..... and theirs (we played allot of zone with the lead to make them eat up clock).

JG doesn't have to throw at his best, like he did last year against UK & Mizzou, to elevate us.

I was as impressed with how quick & decisive JG was reading the defense and picking up a few first downs tucking and running as I've been with the games he's had hot steaks passing in the past.

JG's accuracy is streaky. That's just a given at this point and the team has to play through it. He doesn't have to complete +66% if he'll consistently recognize the defense & tuck and run like he did today.

I'm still not convinced he ends the year our starter, but I'd love if this becomes every game and I have to eat crow.

The next 3 games will determine his fate and likely his legacy in Knoxville, it was always going to be this way I thought. If we go 3-0 the next 3 he'll be a hero, 2-1 he'll likely finish the season as QB1 1-2 he's likely losing snaps and 0-3 will get him benched. Lots of football left but he looked good behind a really good line and he's got a go to receiver in Palmer now I believe as well.

Very true. Josh Dobbs would not be so revered without his pinball stats the last 5 games of 2016.

Only thing I can add about the next 3 games is 1-2 might need to include a W verse GA or AL, then FL writes the last chapter.

I agree with your overall point and no doubt Bazelak looked impressive today and looks more impressive than Mathis so far. That doesn’t mean Bazelak is better though. They’re both freshmen. Check back on that comparison in 3 years and we will see. I agree that stars aren’t everything though.
They get Daniels back today

No, we didn’t have enough practices for the backups to get garbage time. JG needs that to establish a good rhythm with our fresh receivers. If it had been reg practice I would agree with you but we need all the first team reps we can get to deal with our next few games
You're kidding right? You have to be.
So logically in your minds it make more sense to let JG had the ball off and take a knee the last 2:25...then give another QB game speed reps????

This explains why out backups struggle when they get time...cuz they are not ready....CJP seems to invest alot of time in starters but not backups....explains why Slaughter and other backups have struggled with game speed...

I mean there's really not much advantage to playing at home. Crowd noise, etc.

Yes.

Also if today's JG had shown up last week we'd have beat the devil out of USCjr and I think we wouldn't be giving a rip about some young DBs getting beat up.

Agreed. However. A 5th year senior shouldn't be having inconsistencies at this level, week to week. I guess we'll know at the end of next weeks game if he's beginning to move beyond that.
