The Official #4 Tennessee vs #14 Alabama Game Thread, Saturday 8pm/ESPN

ZZ played 38 minutes
Sears played 39 minutes

What a battle
Commentators love to go on about ZZZ’s great defense, but Mashack was way more effective at keeping Sears out of the paint tonight. Vescovi was a defensive menace also. Barnes does know how to coach him some defense!

People think we didn't play well and still won. This is what March looks like in college basketball. The other teams are good too. You just have to dig deeper. Want it more. Find a way to score and adjust to how the other team is playing you. We did all those things tonight. This is how it looks 90% of the time.

So many moments:
1. Santi with 3 steals in a row to break their rhythm
2. Mashack with that ridiculous corner dagger followed by the over the middle interception
3. Barnes for managing the fouls and personnel and making multiple in game adjustments
4. Someone (Santi? He was drawing up plays during timeout) who adjusted the offense late which led to open 3s and open drives b/c Knecht was swinging the ball instead of trying to force it
5. The FREAKIN defense the last 12 min
6. Gainey giving us 9pts in a half that saw 40% of our usual players limited by fouls
7. JJJ with one of his best ever games--key shots, defense, and critical rebounds
8. ZZ controlling the game late, putting Sears out of business again
9. The ridiculous mental toughness to win this in their house against their A game

Wow. Wow. Wow.

The players absolutely LOVE their coach, that's not something you can say for many coaches in CBB, especially in the transfer portal age

He’s very tough on them, but they also knows how much he cares for them. At 38 im not one of the oldest fans but he’s definitely the best hoops coach we’ve had in my lifetime. Thanks Texas

This is the best season of coaching I’ve ever seen from him at UT. It’s on another level. So many little things I can pick out from game to game.

Essentially, we played poorly the last 4 minutes of the first half and for 10-12 minutes of the second half, yet we still win against a very good team. Tennessee persevered when things were looking sketchy, but making all those stops the last 8 minutes was huge.

Also interesting was at the 12 minute mark Alabama was shooting 51% from the field and they finished the game at 36%. This team laid some serious D on the Tide. Another beautiful Tennessee Saturday Night.
That Tennessee Big D energy!

Alabama fans weren’t happy about it but all of his fouls were fouls. He’s commits that moving screen on almost every possession is felt like, and it was only called a handful of times. He could have fouled out earlier.
Who was the guy that fouled Knecht on the right baseline that had the bama crowd booing? Dude grabbed him on the forearm- it was so obvious - gumps!
