Legendary college football coach Lou Holtz hasn’t been a fan of the Tennessee Vols for a long time.
Holtz confirmed via his rankings this week that he apparently still doesn’t care for the Volunteers after all these years.
According to Vols Wire’s Dan Haralson, Holtz has Tennessee at No. 6 this week on his FWAA-NFF Super 16 Poll ballot.
The Vols are No. 5 in the updated AP Top 25 poll, so simply having the Vols at No. 6 isn’t necessarily egregious.
What’s indefensible, though, is Holtz having Alabama, a team that Tennessee beat this season, at No. 5.
I am enjoying the whole playoff discussion, even with squib.Went to check out the SC message boards and well, not much going on. They are all pretty much saying to take the points as they expect us trying to win big for the race to the CFP.
Since not much is going on there, I decided to take a look at boards of those in the playoff race. I won't start a 2435th thread for @Behr to participate on the same topic, but it was interesting reading thoughts of other teams.
Clemson and UNC:
TCU
- Clemson has a sad board vs. UNC. You'd think Clemson would have lost 3 games with the tone on there. UNC is excited with their season.
- Both teams do not think there is a chance on making the CFP with their bad loss to ND, even if they win out, including the ACCCG.
- Clemson had a thread started about Tennessee and LSU being fakes since we barely beat Pitt and LSU lost to FSU. Someone was quick to ask, well what are we then?
USC
- Not much chatter. They are just enjoying the season. They know if they win out they are in, but if they lose, they are still excited about their year.
Michigan and Ohio State
- They believe if they win out including PAC12 champ, they are in (I agree).
- They don't believe they are winning out though.
- They seem to think it will be UGA, Ohio St, TCU and Tennessee.
- Okay can we play one of these fools and beat the crap out of them? Tons of arrogant chatter by both about scenarios.
- They believe UGA is winning out along with TCU. Leaving 1 spot left after the OSU/UM game.
- They believe USC will drop a game.
- There is a ton of chatter about us being #4 or not being in at all. No one wants to see a rematch of a UGA beatdown on Tenn (okay we can't have a different result??), so there is no chance for us to be in. They think the loser of their game gets #4 (or Clemson) and we get left out.
- On the flip side, some do think we could be #3 or #4 only because of SEC bias to help get at least one SEC team into the championship. Most agree though they see no possibility of us jumping TCU as big 12 champs for #3, which again makes them point out we won't get #4 for a rematch.
It is fun to be in the discussion.I am enjoying the whole playoff discussion, even with squib.
If we win out with dominant wins...
I'm afraid of USC being a 1 loss PAC12 champion.
I'm afraid of LSU beating Georgia.
To be clear, I'm not saying I think those happen, I'm saying if one or both possibilities were to happen, I'd worry.
Pretty much don't see any other obstacles. That is, if we take care of SC and Vandy like we should.
Yeah, it's really fun knowing that we were at least 50% responsible for Alabuckinfama missing the playoffs. It is fun to be in the discussion.
I really only see USC as the obstacle left, and they have a tough schedule. It would be great for TCU to lose so we could play Ohio St or Michigan rather than UGA in Atlanta.
UGA/TN had 6.7 TV rating. I think that's the highest rating for any cfb game this season. May come down to what kind of viewership OSU/Mich draws.Went to check out the SC message boards and well, not much going on.
