I played a little baseball growing up and was taught that if the ball is behind you on 2nd, then go to 3rd. Of course, it was caught. But if instincts had it dropping then that was the play.

I played a little baseball growing up and was taught that if the ball is behind you on 2nd, then go to 3rd. Of course, it was caught. But if instincts had it dropping then that was the play.

Yep if a grounder is behind you, but with no outs and any ball in the air your first step is back (including line drives).

I was taught when there's a fly ball hit .... catch it with both hands.

now that’s one post I totally agree with! Drives me nuts with these one handed showboat catches we see today. My dad would’ve kicked my ass if I did that back in the day.

I just don’t believe that play was that simple. Aggressive play requires you to trust your player’s instincts. When I saw it hit, on tv, it looked like it would drop. I will leave it at that. I don’t think it was that egregious as other things you see.

also, if that ball got by the shortstop and Russel doesn’t score from 2nd, then everyone would be complaining too. Some plays are damned if you do and damned if you don’t….it’s part of the game and you see it every game
