The Official #5 Tennessee at Mizzou Weekend Game Thread (Game 1 Friday @ 7:30 PM) (Game 2 Saturday @ 4 PM) (Game 3 Sunday @ 2 PM)

I have watched a lot of baseball in my day and to be honest , this team is as good as I have seen ... I don’t care what any Negative people say but this team is Legit. Being in 1st place in the SEC after 24 games says a lot. I mean the discipline and Power of this team . Strong and athletic!!! Keep winning guys. I believe in you !!!!

I strongly feel like if Jackson Leath hadn’t of gotten hurt. The Vols would have won a Natty and they still could. That’s crazy to think about
I don’t know what could have been but it sux that we didn’t t to see what both Leath and Crochet could accomplish in a Orange and white uniform.

Do y’all ever ask your selves ? Is this some kind of a dream ? I mean the turn around and the quality of baseball these guys play . It’s fun baseball and has a Brand...

58 times.

We bat .207 with bases loaded. No other team in SEC only games has been in that situation more than 33 times. That’s a crazy, ongoing stat that is just befuddling.
A ton of those were productive outs though. I know VolNation gets rowdy about leaving runners on base but a sac fly or a ground ball the other way may hurt your batting avg but it helps your team win.

I’d like to see what the batting average is when you don’t count the situations when the bases didn’t become loaded until there were two outs.

I understand what you are saying for sure, but to be in that position 25 more times than our SEC brethren, I mean...that’s crazy, especially as aggressive as we can be at times.

This late in the season, it doesn’t seem like a fluke, statistically...like maybe it did early in the year.

I mean, other side is we walk a lot, get on base, but...

You don’t think it’s a little troublesome?

Maybe, it’s like in football, where everyone in Neyland says better get the TD, cause I ain’t sure about the kicker. No out’s, 1 out, 2, every time we get bases loaded I think the worst now.

Not at all. Having bases loaded creates so many little problems that add up to big problems over the course of a game/weekend.
Pitch counts rise, stress pitches for opposing pitchers, and so many looks for our hitters to see everything a pitcher has to offer. We are one of the highest scoring offenses in SEC league play and we have our fair share of grand slams as well. Going into this weekend we were leading the conference in homeruns in league play. Those little problems I mentioned before are a big reason why IMO.

In good old fashion baseball forum etiquette, we’ll have to agree to disagree. I think if we leave 30 stranded next weekend, we’ll have a problem.

I know I do. When my son committed to UT, we were the bottom. Our dream was that he would get to play in an SEC Championship and get to be a part of a Regional. Never dreamed in his first full year that he would be a part of a Top 4 team and have a chance to win a regular season SEC championship and/or SEC tournament championship, and host a regional and hopefully a super regional and if we play like we are go to CWS. You always wonder whether you son can compete. He had an incredible HS career in two states and played high level travel ball for years with teams in Tennessee, Missouri, Georgia, and SC. Played with the best and against the best but you still wonder. Proud he has played a part in helping his teammates compete against the best in the nation and still greater things to come. We are a true Blue Collar Team that has very few, what you would call stars, but a lot of hard working young men and a great set of coaches that will fight for each other. Hope LNS is packed this weekend and very rowdy. Could be #1 versus #2 but I don't think they will jump us that far. Definitely will be for a SEC regular season championship.

I will agree if you are playing the number 1 team in the country it could be troublesome.
However we don’t play the number 1 team very often and over the course of a series, continually getting runners on wears down opposing staffs. It’s always better to score 4 or 5 runs and strand a ton of runners than to score 4 or 5 with hardly any traffic.

Of course I would love to see 10-20 runs a game but come on, this is the SEC.

Fair enough, and no I don’t expect to score 10 runs a game, but we leave more than we should on the table and I am not sure we can afford it over the next two weekends, that’s all I mean. It’s an interesting stat, but it’s not the Bible. AND...

We have won 17 SEC games in spite of it. So, take care of business and all remains right with our Vol World.

Your opinion
I have mine
You don’t see it in the upper leagues for a reason
Cool and I will get off your lawn, now. Surely, somebody didn't try it in a game ? We agree there. But, Dave Parker and Barry Bonds used to catch fly balls with style, but I never saw 'em try a behind the back catch in a game
