The Official #5 Tennessee @ Vanderbilt Game Thread, 6:00 PM ET, SEC Network

Could this ref crew be a really low graded thrown together crew? This game was an after thought....top 5 vs terrible.
The contact they allowed on our penetrators, and with hacks and over the backs on our rebounders in possession was the worst I have seen this year. The two NO-BRAINER non calls on Santi and Aidoo at the rim WILL be on Coach's tape to the league office. We were lucky that the hook and hold was so graphically clear that they had to take back a stupid call on Santi who had position and give it to them.....but they tried. There may have been some iffy calls that went our way, but somebody will have to show me anything close to those non calls as the proverbial it all evens out calls.

We really need JJJ to figure things out, but it’s really nice to see Santi have two straight games in double figures. He looked great in the 2nd half. Like vintage Santi. 10 points from him a game is perfect. It keeps the defense honest and from completely focusing on just Knecht.
Yeah probably combination of confidence is shot plus hurt. Passing up easy dunk to Aidoo pass who got fouled and missed 2 FTs was rough to watch.

He's doing EXACTLY what he is supposed to do. Do you want him being aggressive offensively? If so, you must know it takes away from Knecht. He is an important role player. Credit to him, and Barnes
He leads the team in minutes per game and his averages per game are decent. In SEC play he has not been decent. If my memory is correct, he disappeared in the big non-conference games. I noticed his thumb was taped tonight. Given his history with injuries, I have no idea why he is playing as many minutes as he is. By this point of his career, he is what he is. i would cap his minutes at 20 and give the rest to Awaka and Shack. Awaka played 6 minutes tonight which is a head scratcher for me. I love his motor and would let him play until he fouls out.He is an elite rebounder and has shown flashes on offense. We are going to need him against elite competition. For transparency, I have never been a fan of JJJ the player, but he seems to be a great teammate and human. Historically, he disappears in big games with a couple of exceptions.

Estrella really seems to make strides each game. He seems to be strong for a freshman and looks to have already bought into Rick's culture
My opinion is worth what you’re paying for it, but I think he will be a part of the game plan for UK and get 10 minutes. Could really use some size in that game to help Aidoo and not sure Awaka would give what we will need, esp with his tendency for taking some quick fouls. Think we will need Estrella down the stretch.

Great second half, up till the point we were up 15 and beating the spread, and they stood and watched that Vandy punk have a layup to get it below 13.5 and cost me a lot of $.

My wife, of almost 29 yrs, and I enjoyed our Vols get the “W” in Nashville, tonight. Memorial is such a bad arena.

NEWS & NOTES

• Rick Barnes is 29-6 (.829) against in-state foes during his nine- year Tennessee tenure, including 12-1 (.923) over the last 13 such contests. More information can be found on Page 7.
• Santiago Vescovi's next start will be the 129th of his career, moving him past Chris Lofton (2004-08) and Allan Houston (1989-93) for sole possession of the most in program history.
• Zakai Zeigler has 25 steals in the last nine games (2.8 spg), making him the second UT player in Rick Barnes' nine years to achieve that feat, alongside former teammate Kennedy Chandler, who had 26 from 11/26/21 to 1/8/22. Zeigler needed just 83 appearances to become the 12th Volunteer ever with 150 steals.
• After previously eclipsing 17 points just twice in his career, Jonas Aidoo scored 19 in each of the last two games, his first time tallying even 15-plus back-to-back as a collegian. The 38 points are his second-most in a two-game stretch at UT, trailing only the 43 he had from 12/9/23 to 12/12/23.
Knoxville west is now playing on Dalton Knecht court!

Vandy sux!

Tennessee definitely had a game where the whistle wasn't in their favor. However, Tennessee powered up and dominated. Nuff said. Good game. Go VOLS!

Go set in the corner and whine some more. We just need to play better. It gets old listen to you guys bitch about the refs every game when things aren’t going our way. You probably thought this game would be a cake walk. Why? It’s a friggin SEC opponent.

To deny that bad officiating can change the outcome of a game, regardless of how good or how bad they execute is just crazy. There were three world class bad calls/no calls in their favor, not counting the give and take type of bad calls... We were lucky one was the hook and hold play they had to reverse after calling a foul on Santi when he had inside position and was just trying to hold his spot. They had to take back that call and award us foul shots. When the TV guys make jokes about the NON CALLS when they body planted Santi and Aidoo, you know they are horrible. They won't put unprotected skin in the game over the airwaves. Go check how many times Coach has been T'd up since arriving at UT.... that is a good indicator too.

I think UT is the most complete team in the country. I know we say this often, but with a TRUE bucket getter, I think we have the penetrators that Purdue doesn't, the defense that UNC, UCONN and KU doesn't, and the offense Houston doesn't. Final Four incoming I hope !!!!
Hmmm, I was at the Tenn vs UNC game this season. For the most part, it was not pretty!
