You know advertisers would be pissed if game ends in 2 hours 5 mins and their ad gets ran in garbage time/post-game commentary.
Maybe ESPN charges less in that time, tho. Not sure.

It’s fluid. They can sell and schedule an exact number of spots during each scheduled time out and during half times. How they sell spots in overtime, official reviews, and coaches time outs must be difficult to guarantee - so they probably cost less. Maybe not overtime - seems like a premium could be charged since the endings are almost always just a couple of possessions.

Good ole Rece, pumping up the Refs with his foul calls and Tennessee being last in the SEC in Fouls called against.
This is a stat that is never referenced those refs call it both ways so I don't understand why Rece Davis thought it was a point to mention it on game day twice.
Fowler always throws out these type of stats in Tennessee Football games as well.

ESPN hates us.

I like the idea of 2.5 hours simply for the chance of OT. I don't think they like it though cause ultimately it affects their scheduling.
Those extra half hours add up and it affects their programing schedule.

It used to be games would just get played and if they were on TV, TV would work around them. It’s been a 180 and now games are managed to accommodate TV.

My question is always why anyone would subject themselves to watching that dreck? It's hard to imagine a bigger waste of time.

Yep, Rece is an Alabama graduate and we all know what he's doing. Way too many videos of him visiting Alabama and chumming it up during gamedays to think anything else.

I watch it because it is one stop coverage for sports. No channel flipping required. The slights are always unnecessary and this is a stat to watch, but he one sided stated it at his first comment and made it sound like Tennessee was getting favorable calls from the Refs.

Same Refs calling fouls at both ends of the court each game. Crews change every game and we seem to be the lowest team that they call fouls against. Alabama draws the most fouls every game, but Rece leaves the impression that Tennessee gets a pass on fouls.

What's more, prediction Rece not included all the staff went with Tennessee and then asked Rece his prediction and he said Alabama loses by 25 with a chuckle . Just another gig.

It’s not really complicated.

It’s totally normal for a very good defense to not foul a lot. That’s literally a huge contributing factor on why that defense is good in the first place
I would think end of game point spread would influence how many “intentional” fouls a team commits trying to catch up when trailing. If the score is close, even when trailing a team may choose to play D instead of fouling to stop the clock. Thinking back on this season, I can’t remember more than a handful of “intentional” fouls we committed in the last 2 minutes of games.

This is a great point. I’d love for intentional fouls to be categorized differently. But realize that’s a subjective thing

Aden Holloway will be shut down by our guards today. Okpara should feast against Grant Nelson. Mark Sears is a good player, but he gets alot of his production by getting to the basket and getting fouled. He will get his, but not enough to make up the difference playing in Knoxville. I just don't see a path to victory for Bama. Go VOLS!

Watching that schiit is like masochism. Who the hell needs 24-7 "coverage", especially from the kind of hacks that provide it?

Listen, do what makes you happy. I quit sports radio and all pre- and post-game garbage as well as any between games crap on TV more than 20 years ago, and I feel more knowledgeable and enjoy sports a hell of a lot more. Whatever works for you.
