Random question for you, but I've had the thought and notion that Barnes should lean more international in his recruiting due to the style of offense he wants to run. Has that ever been discussed with the staff? Seems like the Arizona approach would benefit us.Quick comment on Jefferson— He does not have a discipline problem or a chemistry problem. I would not count him as an automatic portal entry. He’s having a hard time grasping some key concepts on both ends. Barnes has given him some metrics to hit in practice that unfortunately he isn’t hitting. His team likes him. He likes being here. If he transfers out it will be because he can’t develop enough to fit the system. No one has given up on him yet. There are moments in practice where he really shines at both ends. He still makes big mental errors, and that needs to change.
He was aggressive in getting paint touches last year. Hope he gets back to being comfortable in that area again. The amazing thing about Mashack is that his physical defense usually causes his man to give up. They keep going through the motions, but they get worn down quickly. Given his offensive improvement and his aggressive drives of late, it’s hard to justify him sitting much at all.
You might be right. That's just one of the thing I remember from last season. He was the one guy that could kind of get to the paint when he wanted. I know he struggled running point early on. He was thinking too much and not just playing.I have no hard data to support my impression, but seems like he’s driving into the lane more this season?
Same here. I just did a deep dive on the Ole Miss team and players as far as their results so far this year. They’re a very experienced team, and probably the most experienced team we’ve played. They have some exceptionally good players that have been through the wars as 4 of them that play a lot are transfers from good programs.Excited for OM. Hopefully we come out ready to play
Check this out. They have good defensive stats for effective field goal percentage, turnover percentage, and free throw percentage, but are an average defense because they’re catastrophic at allowing offensive rebounds.Same here. They are very guard-oriented with good size at that position. They shoot just over 40% from 3, they take care of the ball and they have a good assists-to-turnover ratio. They are slightly in the negative with rebounding, but do have a 7’5” guy who blocks a bunch of shots, along with a 7- footer who was a 5-star center four years ago and ranked the 2nd best center on 247.
Also have to recognize Chris Beard, who’s an outstanding coach and knows how to get the most out of that squad. After researching, this game has me quite nervous because this team has been put together quite well. I hope the Vols play well tomorrow.
Thanks! Good stuff.Check this out. They have good defensive stats for effective field goal percentage, turnover percentage, and free throw percentage, but are an average defense because they’re catastrophic at allowing offensive rebounds.
