I think this is always a strategy. Force their best player to make contact and draw fouls. For the first 10 minutes of the game I'm sure the refs will let Bama knock our guys into the upper deck with no whistle while we get called for looking at them wrong (like usual). Here's hoping we can keep V and Aidoo under 2 fouls for the first 5 minutes.Wonder if CRB will try to force the offense at Sears? Making him exert extra effort on defense and potentially lose minutes due to fouls could be a strategy?
From this description I would never believe they’ve lost 5 games!Bama plays like bullies on steroids. Defensively they will mug you and hope the officials swallow their whistle and offensively they play like their hair is on fire by jacking 3’s or attacking the rim and getting to the free throw line. They average 90 a game and hold opponents to 73 a game. They shoot almost 50% from the field and 40% from three. They have taken 501 attempts with the 3 and average almost 12 makes a game, while opponents have taken 387. They shoot 78% from the foul line and taken 398 attempts to their opponents 363. They body up on drives and constantly reaching in for steals as they average almost 8 per game. We must value every possession and limit turnovers and most importantly win the rebound game. We gotta rely on our defense to slow these guys down. Barnes needs to work the officials from the get go. Don’t let oats beat him to the punch with the refs. Both teams are pretty deep. It would be nice to see JJJ, SV, or Gainey score double figures. If we can hold them to 30% shooting from 3 ( we can’t let them go off on us with 15 made 3’s) and limit their free throws I think we win by at least 8. Aidoo can’t disappear today from their physical play. Go Vols! Beat Bammer!
Last game he played limited minutes due to a leg issue.Could be Sears, more than anything I just take it to mean Vegas likes Tennessee to win this by 5+…they felt like if they put the number at 4.5 that ll money would heavily favor Tennessee and they’d stand to lost a good bit of Tennessee indeed won by that 5+. They set it at 5.5 hoping for a 50/50 money split (always the goal), but money still has favored Tennessee so they’ve shifted it more.
If you say so - guess we’ll see just how formidable they are this afternoon. The picture you paint is of us having to play near perfect ball to win yet we’re a 5.5 favorite? Somebody likes our chances, but you may be right and they run us out of our own gymTheir schedule was just as challenging as ours. They are better than 10 of the top 25 teams ranked.
No I don’t think they will run us out of the gym we dont have to play perfect just play smart and keep our composure with their physical play. I think we win by 8 or more. They are a good team we gotta guard them without fouling and handle their mugging defense. The officials will have a big say in this gameIf you say so - guess we’ll see just how formidable they are this afternoon. I think we can get down and dirty with the best of them but you are right Bama players are bullies with an edge. JJJ will have to prove today he can handle physical play on his drives. I wish he would just finish and not stop and try to pass out so much. He seems to shy away from physical play. The intangible for today is which team wins the attitude battle. This is a strength of Oats’ teams and helps them on the road I think. The Vols are a “quieter” group but I like some signs I’ve seen lately. Sure wish JJJ had some more “nasty” in him.
I did actually ask about what's going on with JJJ, gainey and scovi. He said the team is treating it as growing pains due to them not being the main option anymore.. so basically the obvious answer everyone on here is probably already thinking. And that goes for all three of them - Gainey nearly led his previous team in minutes and ppg. They're each just trying to find rhythm in ways they haven't had to yet. Some of us welcome insiders with open arms! How bout some nuggets concerning our freshmen - anybody already have one foot out the door? What’s going on with Gainey’s collapse? Where’s Vescovi’s outside shot?
I am saying the Vols can't come out and go 1 of 14 from the 3 and win this game. Hit 5-14 and the Vols win easily.Who are you referring to as "they"? If you're saying bama will win easily by hitting 3s that's simply untrue. We beat them last year (when they had Brandon Miller) handily, without JJJ even. Our home advantage is huge. Hoping you were referring to the vols
He can be a SEC POY/All-American type without being Michael Jordan on the Bulls which is where you seem to be setting the bar for him. Edey got exposed against FDU in the 1st round and Purdue went home in embarrassing fashion, he still won the Naismith…Nope. We don't disagree at all. I'm the kind that takes the season as a whole. Hope he's all that folks say and we have that break through season I've been waiting on for over 6 decades. I'll gladly eat crow. I've gathered a ton of recipes over the years.
Edit...gotta say tho...today's game is huge in terms of the league. Those special players will shine when the lights are their brightest. Pulling for him to finally get that 40 pt game.
Their mugging Defense is ranked 247th in points allowed at 73 a game. Good point, gotta protect home court. We are at home. With a home crowd advantage. We see that this is huge in the SEC with Bball... If everyone is healthy today and we don't get bent over by the refs, no reason for us not to come away with the W, even if it isn't pretty.
We drop a L at home against a team/school that we cannot stand, and coming off of a two game streak where we look like we are firing on all cylinders, then the criticism and red flags will be popping up again, unfortunately with good reason.
Just come in to our arena, play your arse off, let the crowd shake our opponent, take care of business, stay confident, and get the W...
