The Official #8 Tennessee vs. Mississippi State Game Thread, 7:00 PM ET, ESPNU

What’s even more scary, we really haven’t reached our max potential on offense yet.

Idk. I think tonight was it. I’m not saying you can’t replicate this performance, but I don’t think there is another level. We shot 70% from the field against the 6th ranked defense.

If Phillips has gotten thru his only freshman "wall" and the game slows for him, scary is right. I think playing defense at the level Barnes demands impacted him...and Key...to the point it influenced their offensive output. Let those 2 get a second wind and we're gonna be one very tough out no matter who the opponent is.

It’s going to be extremely hard to shoot 70% from the field every night.

If the offense can at least put enough effort as much as the defense, this team can do serious damage in the NCAA Tournament.

That was one of his weaker games. Smith ate his lunch. Aidoo is greatly improved and has a very high ceiling but tonight wasn’t his best.

Aidoo needs another year in the weight room. He gets bullied in the paint a lot.

Wow. 22 spots after one performance? Sheesh. Shows you how bunched up so many teams are.

It does…but we are 8.4 better on defense than tenth ranked team. On offense, 8.4 is the difference between 1 and 29. Elite defense.

It is also adjusted based on the opponent, I think. So, we moved up offensively also for scoring 87 against the 6th top defense.

If JJJ truly is back (and it looks like he is, just have to see if that knee doesn't flare up), I think we can expect to keep building on the offensive end. No, 70% against a team as good as MSU is on defense shouldn't be expected every night, but I think we will start to be consistently potent on that end, as JJJ opens things up for others, and Phillips keeps getting more comfortable on the offensive end. Nkamhou is giving us a solid scoring threat inside and Aidoo has made a jump on that end recently, as well. Key is showing signs. Awaka is giving us a lot more than I thought he would this season. I think this team is building towards becoming the team Tom Izzo said it would be after the preseason exhibition. Let's just hope it comes together in March this year.

Yeah, we are not going to shoot like that probably ever again, this year. But, if JJJ is playing, we are a better offensive team. Better on defense, even if it's just , .1%, like tonight
