The Official Charleston Southern @ Tennessee midweek series thread (Tues. 2/28 4:30PM EST SEC NET+) (Wed. 3/1 4PM EST SEC NET+)

Second base is worn down to the chopped up tire bedding lol. I wish we never got rid of natural grass and dirt, but the times are a-changing I guess.

Can’t imagine that field isn’t hot as unholy **** in the summer though. Turf fields always felt like the pit of hell to me during summer ball. But they didn’t exist at the level they do now. Still had astroturf and dirt cutouts around the bases then lol

I imagine they’re trying to hold off replacement until they start the renovations in the offseason. The area around the mound has also looked bad on tv. Maybe it’s just the saturation of colors on tv and it looks better in person.

Batted 1-4 iirc. Single, fielders choice, fly out at the track and a strikeout.

Made a hell of a play at 2nd. Almost ran over C-Mo in the process, but he covered like 20-30 feet grabbing the grounder and tossing the guy out at first.

What inning? I‘d like to see that replay.

Quick question, how long before game time does the gates open? When I come up for the games, I'll either be on crutches or on a scooter (torn Achilles/Surgery).

The mound isn't all that bad in person, but the 2nd base chunk is definitely noticeable. Bad enough I wonder if it could be replaced once the first road trip comes up.

I wish it were grass, but I know the turf has also saved us a couple games already this year. I'd be interested to know if UT has tracked it since its been installed.

it's is not just the rainouts; we've only had one game not finish due to the weather, and it was finished the next day, however, it's the ability to practice on the field during the week without wearing out the turf. Also, during the summer they can have a number of camps and tournaments without turf damage as well.......

The ability to practice on artificial turf plays a huge dividend in the development of the players, CTV has stated this a number of times.

Guys, the turf may look "funky" on tv, due to the sun and camera angles, however, I can assure you its in A++ shape.

Any word on Cam Sewell?? He has not pitched a single inning this year. Seems like you would want to get him some work.
