Some scattered thoughts:
1. Ezekiel Ansah- Not as depressed as Thursday, but still a bad pick in my opinion. I just don't think he's going to pan out. I felt we needed someone at DE that can help out in the run too and Ansah doesn't do that. I would have traded down and taken Mingo and get an extra 2nd rounder in this situation because a defensive linemen wasn't taken till 12th/13th and the first DE taken after Mingo at #6 was Werned at #24. I would have rather taken Cooper/Warmack at guard or Milliner.
Grade: C-
2. The Lions did do a great job in the 2nd and 3rd round though. I like Slay. I preferred Johnathan Banks, but Slay brings good size and a little more size. I don't know if he'll start from day one, but he's going to play in 2013 and be a starter. For the second round, this was a good pick up.
Grade: B+
3. Warford is a good value pick. He could start from day one and gives Detroit a true run blocker, something that we needed. He's a monster and he will help shore up the O-Line. It's too bad we couldn't get a day one tackle, but I'm okay with Warford here.
Grade: B+
4. I thought Devin Taylor was a steal. Yeah, he was inconsistent, but he has great size and gives them a run stopper at DE that they can play on short downs. I think he'll contribute, but I worry about his inconsistentcy.
Grade: B-
5. Special Teams is a big concern, but I hate taking a punter in the 5th round. Just sign him. Not to hate on Sam Martin, but this was a reach.
Grade: C
6. Corey Fuller was a good pick. Had a great senior year and he can fly. He gives the Lions another deep threat. He's raw, and even Mayhew didn't believe he was going to contribute from day one. But I feel in the 6th round, when you get a guy at 6'2/205 that runs a 4.3 and produced, that's a win.
Grade: A-
7. Theo Riddick was a good depth pick. I like his versatility. He's not Reggie Bush, but he can catch like him. I doubt he'll do much as a running back (he's not going to run for 1,000 yards) but he can definitely be a really good third down back/3rd runner for the Lions.
Grade: B
8. I felt like Detroit could get a TE and I love Michael Williams. I've seen he will be used as a 3rd TE/H-Back and I think he can fit that. He was a great blocker at Bama. I doubt he'll be a great pass catcher, but he's going to help the run game.
Grade: A-
9. Brandon Hepburn is a biochemist. That's all I really know about him. I doubt he'll make the team.
So, overall, Detroit addressed their needs. I want to give them a B+, but Ansah was just a bad pick. So I'll go with a solid B.
