VOL WARS: BREAK OUT THE LIGHT SABER

Tennessee has been putting its new home run celebration to good use this season, as the Vols rank 10th nationally and third in the SEC with 60 home runs entering play this week. UT hitters have donned a Darth Vader mask with a light saber in the dugout following homers this year.

So far this season, 15 different players have gone deep for the Big Orange. Eleven of those 15 players have hit multiple homers, led by Blake Burke (11), Griffin Merritt (9) and Zane Denton (8).

UT has homered in 22 of its last 25 games and has gone deep multiple times in 19 games this season. The Big Orange posted their 10th contest with three or more homers in last Saturday's 14-2 win over Florida.

GOING FOR FOUR
Tennessee has pitched a shutout in each of its last three midweek games, blanking Lipscomb (March 14), Western Carolina (March 21) and UNC Asheville (March 28). The Vols have recorded seven shutouts overall this season and also did so in their first midweek game against Alabama A&M on February 22, which was their home opener.

TWO TUDDIES WORTH OF RBI
Senior third baseman Zane Denton has driven in 14 runs over the past 10 games, which is double the next closest players on the team (Christian Moore & Griffin Merritt).

Just been waiting for the next game thread to post this.

I wasn't shocked, being an experienced baseball watcher, but I was still taken aback when I saw the stat.

The SEC is filled with the best baseball teams in the nation, hands down. Georgia is not amongst them. Yet, the hapless pups currently possess the longest winning streak in the entire league.

2 games.

Yes, indeed. A league most likely to win the CWS, doesn't currently have a team who's managed to string together 2 wins. Except Georgia, in a 14 inning double header.

This ain't football. Don't doubt my BaseVols simply because winning is hard at this game.

This Vol team is just so young and not secure in their abilities yet. Plus they are trying to cut their teeth in the meat grinder known as the SEC. No shortcuts exist. Just have to be patient and roll with the body blows that come and hope we don't take a KO punch.

Was thinking about the pitching staff. Cam Sewell hasn't gotten many innings and I thought he was effective against the Gators in the past? Also, what's going on with Zach Joyce? His numbers are good (13k's in 8.1 innings), but he's not seeing any mound time.

Sewell was warmed and ready to close out Sat’s game until we walked it off in the 8th. CTV expressed disappointment that Sewell didn’t get any action but his plan was for him to close out the 9th.
