PROJECTED STARTING PITCHERS

UT: RHP Austin Breedlove (7 APP, 1-0, 1.17 ERA)
ETSU: LHP Derek McCarley (6 APP, 0-0, 3.77 ERA)

SERIES HISTORY

Vols vs. Bucs
Overall: Vols lead, 70-20
in Knoxville: Vols lead, 40-10
in Johnson City: Vols lead, 29-10
at Neutral Sites: Vols lead, 1-0
Last Meeting: W, 16-0 (7 Inn.) on Feb. 21, 2024 (Knoxville, Tenn.)

UT has won four straight in the series entering Tuesday's contest and are 6-3 against the Bucs under head coach Tony Vitello.

NOTABLE

Vols Chasing More History
At 20-0 and the last remaining unbeaten team in the country, Tennessee has a chance to reach some more milestones this week while adding to what is already the best start to a season in program history. A win on Tuesday would tie the program record for consecutive wins at 23, dating back to the final two games of last season. That mark would match the 23 straight victories the 2022 team posted from March 5 through April 10.

Should the Vols win their next two games, they would tie the SEC record for consecutive wins, which is 24 by Texas A&M in 2015. Another undefeated week would tie that same Aggies team for the most consecutive victories by an SEC team to start a season (24).

Sweeping Away the Competition
Last weekend's sweep of No. 6/7 Florida marked the 17th for the Vols in league play under Vitello. UT has swept at least one SEC opponent in every season under Vitello after recording just two sweeps in conference play in the prior six years before he took over (2012-17).

Another SEC Weekly Honor
For the third straight week, Tennessee had a player earn weekly honors from the league as Marcus Phillips was tabbed the SEC Pitcher of the Week on Monday after tossing a seven-inning complete-game shutout last Saturday against the Gators.

Making his first-career SEC start, Phillips struck out seven, scattered five hits and issued just one walk in a career-high seven innings pitched, topping his previous career-best of 5.2 innings. The South Dakota native's complete-game shutout was the first by a UT pitcher since Drew Beam had one in a win at Vanderbilt on April 3, 2022.

Power vs. Power
Tennessee and ETSU both enter Tuesday's midweek clash ranked in the top four nationally in home runs. The Big Orange rank second with 53 long balls this year while the Bucs are fourth with 45. Grant Gallagher and Cooper Torres both rank in the top 15 nationally in homers for ETSU with 11 and nine, respectively. Gavin Kilen also has nine on the year to lead UT.

ETSU will likely go all in to end our winning streak. As we all know, CTV is extremely competitive, but will likely go with a new pitcher each inning with a huge series this weekend with Alabama. I agree, this looks like a shootout with several runs for each team.

Well we did have 3 pitchers Tony wanted to pitch this past weekend that didn't get work. Not good for ETSU because my guess they will probably get at least 1innig each. Franklin's rough probably get him a inning.

Always love the ETSU game. They are one of my favorite in-state schools in baseball. They always compete and usually field decent teams. Johnson City is a great college town too. Hope the Vols rough up their pitching and put up double figure runs. 21-0 has a nice sound to it………….right Vol Nation? Let’s beat the Bucs! Great opportunity for our young arms.
