I don‘t think Amick starts or even plays this weekend vs LSU. Everything I’ve read tells me he‘s not been doing much hitting (understandably so) and has only recently been taking ground balls. There‘s no reason to rush him back especially with how well Bargo has been playing. CTV has proven that he won’t risk a player’s future or take chances with their health. I bet we don’t Amick until the KY series. We need a healthy Amick (and Russell) in May and humming for the post season.
Things may have changed or not progressed or he may have been BS’ing me all together but he told me Sunday after the AU game the plan was to be back this weekend. He was signing a ball for my son and I asked how he was recovering, he said great and I asked if he expected to be out Tuesday and back for the weekend and he said that’s the plan. Maybe a head fake for LSU so they’re not expecting the Bargo effect lol.

Okay…they made an announcement at the game that they were having a watch party in Vol Village for the LSU series. Anybody know anything?
@Volprofch05 posted the link. I can add that our Our Elite-8, SEC-season champion BasketVols will be somewhere at the festivities, too, if you're interested. Maybe part of the Vol Walk, idk. Baseball watch party was a great idea!

Cool moment for your son. I think Billy wants to play for sure. I just don’t think CTV believes he’s ready just yet. I think we will see Bargo all weekend at 3rd.

Any word on Russell? Is he throwing at all?

He’s throwing but not to live hitters yet. I’m guessing we won’t see him until May based on what CTV has been saying in interviews. CTV hasn’t given any specific dates but insinuated that AJ was still several weeks from returning on the mound.

Friday night will be a challenge vs Luke Holman.

ERA 2.01
Batting Average Against .174
Man, it would’ve been nice to pull that one off, wouldn’t it? At one point it looked like we had him. Adding Holman to this staff would do wonders for both the starting staff and the bullpen (knocks Causey back to the pen where he is best suited).

I think this is a very dangerous time to be catching these guys. They’re going to be desperate. This is about when Vandy caught us last year after our 5-10 start. Glad we get them at home, but we better be ready.
Yep, I do think LSU will have the "desperate, nothing to lose" attitude this weekend. We swept Vandy in 2023 at home and in 2022 on the road.

LSU will play Tennessee tough this weekend no doubt. Even though their conference record is 3-9, sweep these chumps and get ready for the big weekend series next week vs Kentucky.

This dumb blonde interpreted the comment incorrectly. I understand it now 🤭

I love Amick, but Bargo has filled his shoes big time. Bargo has turned out to be quite the unexpected “get” from the portal.

What would yall think about using Kirby as a starter Friday night, try to get 3-4 innings and then go to combs/snead?

Conversely, we have the chance to end their season this weekend… and our guys know it.

I just hope he gets to pitch and get this record breaking out-of-the-way and an added bonus. Most of our family will be there Friday night.
If not, I have to scramble to find tickets for Saturday.

SERIES HISTORY

Overall: Tigers lead, 63-29
in Knoxville: Tigers lead, 20-18
in Baton Rouge: Tigers lead, 38-9
at Neutral Sites: Tigers lead, 5-2
Last 10 Meetings: Vols lead, 6-4
Last Meeting: L, 5-0 – June 20, 2023 in Omaha, Nebraska (CWS)

Despite being in separate divisions, the Vols and Tigers have become familiar foes in recent years, having faced off 11 times over the past three seasons with five of those meetings coming in the postseason, including a pair of games in last year's College World Series. UT is 7-4 in those 11 contests, including a 3-2 mark in postseason play. Under head coach Tony Vitello, Tennessee is 7-7 overall against LSU. For comparison, the Vols were 2-12 in their previous 14 meetings against the Tigers prior to Vitello's tenure.

NOTABLE

Offensive Firepower on Full Display
Tennessee enters the weekend with the top scoring attack in the SEC and ranks second in the nation, averaging 10.7 runs per game, a mark that would set a new single-season program record if the season were to end today, besting the 1998 team's mark of 10.1.
The Vols scored almost at will in last weekend's trip to Auburn, torching the Tigers' pitching staff for 36 runs and 25 extra-base hits, including a program SEC series record 14 home runs. On the year, UT leads the SEC and ranks in the top seven nationally in batting average (.338), doubles (94), hits (372), home runs (89), home runs per game (2.70), runs (353), runs per game (10.7) and slugging percentage (.671).

Burke Breaking Records
Junior slugger Blake Burke broke Luc Lipcius' Tennessee career home run record last weekend with a solo blast in Saturday's win at Auburn, giving him 41 for his career. Burke is also in pursuit of the program record for the longest hitting streak, as he enters the weekend with a base knock in 23 consecutive games, four shy of Condredge Holloway's record of 27 straight that was set back in 1975.

Sundays Are for the Vols
All four of the Tennessee's SEC series so far this season have come down to a Sunday rubber game. The Vols are 3-1 in those games, having won three consecutive decisive game threes in each of the past three weekends against the likes of No. 18 Ole Miss, No. 22 Georgia and Auburn. Under Vitello (2018-pres.), the Vols are an impressive 16-10 in rubber games including a 15-9 mark in SEC play.
