Well this is good news. 95 with a Hammer will play, especially with his reported level of command and control.

• We need to spend some time talking about Clarke Schmidt. The right-hander dazzled in his two innings of work, allowing just two hits while striking out three. His fastball touched 95 mph, and he delivered a steady diet of hammer curveballs. That’s a big-league ready pitch; Lucas Apostoleris has the video evidence. I’m seriously excited for Schmidt, y’all.

They drafted him knowing he needed TJ surgery. They were obviously still impressed enough to make him a 1st round pick. It shouldn't really be that surprising that they should expect something from him.

I’m sure the front office “expects” all of its 1st round draft picks to perform.
