The Official New York Yankees Thread

For those wondering, Danilo Valiente, Judge's and Sanchez's (and many other Yankees) favorite BP pitcher is still with the team, just not there this season. Valiente is on the restricted list, with the Yankees, as many other teams, are protecting vulnerable employees under the pandemic, taking age and health history into consideration. Valiente pitched to Judge in his HR Derby victory in 2017 in Miami.

Paxton doesn’t have his velocity early here.
operating at 91-93 instead of his usual 95-97.

Hope it’s just early, and not a side effect of his surgery.

Just an awful outing. 1 IP...
Leaves the bases loaded down 2-0 with no outs.

He can’t operate up in the zone with a 92 mph fastball.

Yep.....

Last week, after an intrasquad game, James Paxton told reporters that his mechanics felt off. In particular, he believed that he couldn’t reach his preferred velocity. It turns out that he wasn’t kidding, as Paxtonentered Saturday night’s game without his best fastball.

That ended Paxton’s night, almost as soon as it started, and you know what? That was the right decision. He had nothing working. His fourseamer averaged 91.8 mph, and topped out at 93.8 mph. For comparison, last season the southpaw averaged 95.4 mph on his fastball.
