The Official New York Yankees Thread

Feels like people were overrating the hell out frankie montas but what do I know

Both could be true, but we gave up maybe 1/4 of what Seattle did and people are forgetting (or never knew in the first place because they didn’t follow him until July) how volatile Castillo tends to be

Just how volatile is he

And just to skip all the inevitable posturing, xFIP normalizes to a league-average HR/fly ball rate, which last I heard was around 10%. Castillo is 16% for his career both inside and outside of Cincy, so assuming 10% for no apparent reason and erasing one of his weaknesses for no apparent reason is going to make him look better than he is. For him that stat is largely wishful thinking.

I know we all see his near-4 ERA and 1.40 WHIP from just last season so calling him volatile shouldn’t surprise anyone. He’s a top-25 or so starter but people are talking about him like he’s top 10

I know we all see his sun 2 ERA from just last month in 3 starts against you guys so calling him equivalent to or worse than frankie montas is quite a surprise.

He gave up 8 ER in 3 starts last year and was otherwise dominant. If that’s volatile, then so be it. I’d hate to talk about how volatile Mr Spider Tack is next.

Lol where did I say this? And we’re talking about 3-start samples now?

Putting Castillo in a sentence with Cole is proving my exact point haha thanks

Yank did. It’s literally the reason I’m in this thread.

Engaging with yankees “fans” is just a bonus

Fair point. Given the difference in price between the two I was good with trading Waldichuk + Sears for Montas and Trivino rather than emptying the farm for Luis

Won 5 WS titles with the Yankees. There's worse cases that they've already retied.

He won 4 with the Yankees. He was a 27 WIN player for nine years. Like he was very solid but you can’t retire his number if you’re the Yankees.

Gonna retire Jorge Posada’s next?
