Just how volatile is he
View attachment 481925
I know we all see his sun 2 ERA from just last month in 3 starts against you guys so calling him equivalent to or worse than frankie montas is quite a surprise. And just to skip all the inevitable posturing, xFIP normalizes to a league-average HR/fly ball rate, which last I heard was around 10%. Castillo is 16% for his career both inside and outside of Cincy, so assuming 10% for no apparent reason and erasing one of his weaknesses for no apparent reason is going to make him look better than he is. For him that stat is largely wishful thinking.
I know we all see his near-4 ERA and 1.40 WHIP from just last season so calling him volatile shouldn’t surprise anyone. He’s a top-25 or so starter but people are talking about him like he’s top 10

He gave up 8 ER in 3 starts last year and was otherwise dominant. If that’s volatile, then so be it. I’d hate to talk about how volatile Mr Spider Tack is next.
