It's not really like that - certainly at this point. It's been demonstrated a few times (Ross Perot, for example) that a strong independent or third party simply splits the vote of one party and hands it to the other. Why do you think, that many of us wanted Bernie to run as an independent? I can't see a Dim running against the party and splitting the vote; they are too militant to let that happen.
