-Memphis shot about as good as you possibly can from the field and it was still a close game at the end. Memphis hit lots of contested 3 pointers and made at least 10 points worth of terrible running contested shots.

-I am not one to spend time with the mindless bashing of Skylar McBee, but something is clearly wrong. The elbow injury must be seriously bothering him as he just can't find his shooting stroke. He played poor defensively tonight, but you should expect that from him going up against such hyper athletic guards that Memphis has at their disposal. McBee was the catalyst last year to our excellent run in the SEC, he is not the same player we saw at times last year and something is clearly wrong.

-Josh Richardson has not developed.......he has EVOLVED into a leader and a pretty good scoring threat this year. I said a million times last year for everyone to be patient with him because he had all the tools and now you are seeing what I was talking about.

-Jordan McRae just caught fire. I don't even know what to say about it other than that. Jordan essentially bailed us out, got the crowd back into it and the big run started.

-We didn't play bad on defense, we didn't play good, but we certainly didn't play bad. A lot of the shots that Memphis made were just contested shots and it sucks, but that is just the way it is.

-Memphis has an effort problem. That team is so athletic it is mind boggling and they came in fired up and played a real hard 25 minutes of basketball and a real lazy 15 minutes that about got them beat. This is a serial problem having watched that group of players quite a bit the last couple of years.

-Maymon, Edwards, Reese, Miller

We played without those guys and were forced to do things like keep in a struggling McBee and sub in an overmatched Chevious. Golden is also clearly not right with his injury, but we hung in there. A lot of posters in the game thread were being overly critical of our team and were not factoring in issues like this.

-Memphis is a good basketball team guys, we don't want to admit as they are our big in-state rival, but they are. They have 3 losses and two of them came to top 10 teams.

-A lot of the fans quit on this team tonight, but you know who never quit? The team didn't. The vols rallied and got into position to actually win this game despite being down 21.

Memphis is a solid team. They aren't Final Four good, but they are a good team.

Skylar is shooting under 20% since the injury.
Has to be bothering him though no one will admit it.

When they're on they're easily top 15. They get really complacent against inferior competition and/or when they have a big lead.

I want to add that Memphis clearly attempted to cheat and send the wrong shooter to the free throw line. When the ball carrier was fouled he was by himself at the end of the floor so there isn't even a question of who should be shooting. That should have been a technical foul and if there is not a rule against that there should be.

Yeah, that was blatantly dirty. Can't believe the officials actually gave Thomas the ball at the FT line. Absolutely blatant attempt to cheat entirely on Memphis.

If we would've played the 1st half like we did the 2nd then we could've won. We seem to start slow every game. Our 2nd half is always better than the 1st. Maybe that's better coaching adjustments or whatever, but we got to start off better than we have.

I don't think this Vol team is going to gel as a unit anytime soon. Losing, at home, to this particular Memphis team is not a harbinger of good things to come. Maybe by this time next year we'll have a team that's exciting to watch. Until then, I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Not that this is the reason we lost, but I don't think this can be understated. They were hitting some ridiculous shots.

There won't be a team outside of Ky that UT will play with more talent than Memphis brought in tonight. However, there will be a lot of teams with better coaching that will offset that.

After their performance, I'll give Memphis credit for playing great tonight. Sucks that we lost, but at least it wasn't a blowout. Granted, it could have been, but it wasn't.

Here's my issue...

The dude came out after halftime and in warmups drills 5/5 threes, WTF?

I get game and practice is different, but if the injury effects his shot it should be effecting it in shoot around too.

Good analysis. I agree about the shot making. Thomas and Crawford had been struggling, and they made some contested, somewhat ridiculous, shots. Then when DJ Stephens hits a 3, you know it will be a long night. If you actually put that aside, take away two or three dumb steals and break away baskets and missed FT's and Vols probably win.

CCM made adjustments but way too late. The fact that he even thought that Golden could guard Jackson and McBee could guard Johnson worries me. Then, Hall was on Thomas at times.

Memphis is good. They will out athlete 95% of teams but won't shoot like tonight. They will get to NCAA and Josh may very well win his first tourney game this year. Good too see heart in 2nd half.

must be the same injury he had since day one.if he is injured then CCM must be one stupid coach to stick him in.Mcmiss brings nothing to the floor, who cares if he hit 3 or 8 3s.its still 4 on 5 on either end of the floor and he cant guard nobody.

This Memphis team is good. Lost to some good teams. They just play to the level of their competition.

Are the folks who wanted excitement happy? We scored 80 points.....but lost.

Some should be ecstatic considering they were *****ing about scoring 50 points and winning.

This x1000. I thank god for Pastner, because without his complete inability to coach the Tigers would be much much tougher. Why any recruit goes there to NOT be coached blows my mind.

We need to ride or die with McRae. He's the only Vol with any offensive game. Run the offense through him and let the post players worry about crashing the boards.
