The Official Philadelphia Eagles Thread

Yup a little power struggle goin on.

Thankfully the owner decided to pull himself off his new wife long enough to la down some new rules for them to play by.

Lurie Announces Structural Change

Howie Roseman will be elevated to the role of Executive Vice President of Football Operations and will continue directing contract negotiations, salary cap management and NFL strategic matters, while overseeing the team’s medical staff, equipment staff and more.

Head coach Chip Kelly will now oversee the player personnel department. He will also lead efforts to hire a new personnel executive – a process that will begin immediately.

“We are a good football team and we believe these steps will help make us a great team," said Lurie. "That step - from good to great - is the most difficult one for any organization to make. To do that, sometimes you have to step back and really look hard at where you are today and what you want to become."

Roseman has been with the Eagles for 16 years in a variety of roles - as general manager since 2010.
“Philadelphia is my home and the Eagles are my family. My number one goal is to help bring a championship to this city and that will never change," said Roseman. "I believe this will solidify the trust we have all placed in Coach Kelly."
Kelly, who was hired as the Eagles head coach in 2013, has had two 10-win seasons.

“I am very confident about where we are headed as a team and as an organization. I look forward to continue working with Jeffrey and Howie as well as the personnel department," said Kelly.

“This is not a one-man operation,” added Kelly. “It will truly take a team effort to acquire and develop the best football players and then put the best team on the field each week. It will take all of us working together."

.....basically, Chip won.

Only if you're talking cap space

They do save a ton of cap space, but Alonso is a beast, 159 Takles and 4 Ints as a rookie. And lest face it RBs aren't as valuable as they once were. And with McCoy's huge salary, this is a good deal for the Eagels.

Was the become at kinda expected or va complete surprise?

I mean were they shopping him?

I was kinda expecting it, just not this soon.

RB's have become replaceable as hell with all of the rule changes and emphasis on the passing game.

Same reason why Dallas wont pay Murray after riding the hell out of him. Sure, they are trying to get AP. but I can bet you any number you can name, he wont get there on his current contract.

Once Kelly took away his goalline carries I knew there would be an issue.

11 million a year for the leader in negative yardage is no beuno. Alonso is a monster lb. and still on his rookie deal.

Having said all that, Chip has to win games to make this not be an issue. If he doesn't there will be hell to pay.

Chip is pulling a Spurrier (though looking a little bit better for now)

I'd say this is an even deal. They are essentially getting something back versus nothing when they cut them next year. On the other side for the Bills, they aren't taking much risk since Shady can be cut next year with no dead money hit. They just have to absorb the cap space this year. But they do have to deal with an unhappy player.

Birds going after Murray and will have 55M under cap

I would just draft a rb. Why give another one a big contract? Especially a guy that just played 16 games for the first time in his career, and coming off a crazy number of carries.

I like the things you are saying. Murray's longevity has to be at risk if he takes on a similar number of carries

Yeah, but the ACL issue is a concern imo. If they had packaged it with a draft pick or something, I may see it as a better trade.

He's clearly healthy enough (/pass a doctor examination) to play again this season, though, or this trade would never gone through.

Plus, I think this was more about clearing up the cap room for moves in free agency (& player retention) like what you're seeing start today.

I think a part of it also was that while, yes, he's an extremely popular player, the shelf life on a running back isn't that long anymore and he's already getting ready to go into his 7th season. (Not to mention his total yards began dropped from 2,100 last year to 1,400 this year.)
